Great thing in this world for police is "Ask, Tell, Make.'

Clearly in multiple videos the officers begin asking the suspect to Drop the Gun, This would be the asking portion.

This all happens after less than lethal force was already applied ie. the taser. Obviously, if any of you monday quarterbacks knew anything about tasers, when a taser makes the sound it did, this means it did not reach contact with the suspect's skin and the electric shock was not appllied to the suspect.

By repeating the command of "drop the weapon" the officers are in compliance with the Tell portion of the system.

When the suspect no longer complies with reasonable and lawful commands from the officers, lethal force is authorized, as they have already tried less than lethal, which is what you all want anyways.

Food for thought, no cop goes to work thinking, maybe i can kill someone today, what would he/she actually gain from that. The tension between police and the community is already bad enough. And if you so arrogantly think all cops want to do is kill people, next time you see someone break the law, don't call 911, I mean you clearly know more than the police so who needs them anyways.

You are honestly going to sit there and say that because the taser didn't work their only other option was to shoot him?
It is not hard for that many police officers to restrain someone non-lethally, and if it is then they should not be police officers.

Saying this was justified is insane.

And you are fully qualified in police tactics, I forgot.
You are certified in all the less than lethal force tactics of police.
I guess i forgot you have dealt with multiple people who are non compliant before, or anyone on any form of hallucinogen or depressant for that matter.

Another food for thought, you all complain about not being able to see the suspect grab onto the officers weapon. If a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound, you'll never know, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I 150% agree with you. Abso-freaken-lutely. All these ignorant Liberal all thing cops are out to kill. They just don't understand the law and refuse to until they're tied up in it. Its pretty unbelievable.

As soon as kids like the rest of the people here get off Fox, CNN, and other new companies like that and do their own research, they'll understand why this guy is a criminal. This, along with many others, is just like the Travon Martin case. All the news focused on was how much of an innocent child this kid was. But as soon as people started investigating it more, they realized that he was a damn thug.

Get over it, guys. Cops don't kill just for fun. Watch carefully in the video. You can see the man try and almost lurch at the cops waist. Why would he do that? To express his innocence? No. I was reaching for a weapon. If you even try to reach for a officers weapon, you deserve that same weapon with 5 in your stomach.

Welcome to the law, boys and girls

The man is a criminal for trying to hit cops, no doubt. They had every right to arrest him. To arrest him. Arrest. At no point should he have been shot with a real gun. Going for a cop's gun doesn't mean he had possession of a gun. The man had mental health issues. Maybe the cops were within the law. That would be the issue then. We need to change the laws and put these guys through better training. They are there to protect and serve. Shooting when a situation gets a little out of control is not ok in my opinion. Unless people are literally in danger (the man has a gun pointed at people or something similar), I don't see where shooting someone is ok. Use the physical training you were given to take these guys down. Use the number of officers to your advantage. If the guy goes for your gun, back up. I don't see where the issue in that is. As far as I know, "police officer" isn't currently in the top ten of most dangerous jobs. I think it will be ok if they were slightly less trigger happy. I don't say this in a "I want cops to die more" sense, but I do want less civilians deaths due to scared cops.

Not sure why I would watch CNN or Fox anyway. Fox has always been on the side of cops (they also tend to lie a lot, which is the main problem.) Not sure about CNN. I stopped really caring about them once it came to light they took money from Bahrain to run a story that wasn't truthful even though they had a reporter that knew the truth.

I dont understand you referencing the fact he had mental health issues. Unless they are meant to be able to profile someone and deduce they have mental health issues and possibly intoxicated then you shouldn't have referenced it.

I disagree with everyone being against the police. Someone said above next time you witness a crime, don't bother calling them. If you're against them, don't dare to rely on them in your time of need.

They were dealing with a homeless man in Skid Row. It should have crossed their minds that they may encounter a person with mental problems, yea.

I disagree with people being against the police as well. If I am in situation, I will call them. I just may have to hide my wallet/money due to what I experienced last time (I joke, sort of.) I should call them if I feel it is necessary. It is their job, regardless if I like them or not. We, as citizens, pay them to do their job. If I feel they need to change their policies and training, I think we can talk about it considering we do pay them.

I find it kind of odd. There are these European countries where neither people nor cops have guns. Why can't our cops take down unarmed people without using guns like the other countries do? Why is the gun a go-to item? It should literally be a last resort.

It's your and their right to carry firearms. In any case, I sometimes wonder whether people realise that this isn't a simulation but is real life. The police in question could and probably did fear for his or a colleagues life at the time, especially when the victim was grabbing for a gun.

There are of course cases where police should be prosecuted for their actions, as there are with many other jobs involving power. This case isn't one of them.

It is their right to carry them, but it shouldn't always be their right to use them. Only in dire situations should a gun be used. If a guy has a pointed gun or if someone has a knife to someone's throat are two examples of that. Reaching, which means he doesn't even have it, doesn't fall under that. If you see someone reaching, back up or use unarmed self defence to bring him down. They should be trained in unarmed self defence. They should use it sometime. If they don't train for that for some odd reason, then they should.

If eight trained men are so scared and can't bring down one homeless man without a gun, I seriously consider if any of them should be cops. Cops have a tough job (I will not and have not ever doubted that), but they have a huge responsibility to do that job correctly. One unarmed man being shot and killed in the middle of eight trained men on a public sidewalk is not responsible in any sense of the word.

I'm sorry but 8 cops keeps being referenced, I hope you realize not all 8 were currently engaged with the suspect as there was also a female who had just tried to pick up a weapon and use that on the officers, there were the officers there for crowd control, there was also the portion of the video we don't see because it happened before anyone started recording. All these factors account for the cops justifiably using lethal force. Go through a police simulator at some time, then you will learn for yourself, when someone touches your weapon, what you have to do to protect those around you, and yourself. As i keep saying the taser did not work, which is why the discharge sound was made when it was projected in the suspects clothes. If they used batons, everyone would be complaining about police brutality even more.

It may sound harsh, but I will go home at the end of watch, if you try to disrupt that process, I will use everything in my arsenal of tactics to make sure I go home. If that means lethal force, then I will use lethal force on a non-compliant suspect who poses a threat to myself, my partners, or the public who I have sworn to defend above all else.

Ok, if eight trained police officers can't hold down two individuals, I question if any of them should be police officers (especially the cops that were on the victim.) What before the tape could justify the shooting? When the video starts, we see an unarmed man throwing wild punches around five cops (before the other cops arrive.) It doesn't matter why we are at that point. One unarmed man is swinging on a number of cops. Take him down with nonlethal force. Just as Serj said, each cop should have jumped on a limb. It isn't rocket science. The gun should have never been in the equation other than the cop needing to keep his gun safe and away from the man. That is all.

If I go through a police simulator, I may fail by their standards. Just know, I wouldn't have killed a guy just for reaching for another officer's gun. The man isn't Jackie Chan. Create a distance if he goes for your weapons. Why is that hard? Why are cops so trigger happy when they are faced with a slight danger? (I say slight danger due to the man not grabbing the gun and taking it out of the holster.) They signed up knowing they could very well die protecting the people of the city/town. That is what it is to be a police officer. Shooting an unarmed man is not protecting the people. Criminals are still people and are still people that cops are to protect until they get their fair trial. They still have rights just as any other person has. (Unless of course the man draws a gun or rushes and gets close to cops/people with a knife, which neither happened in this situation.)

More police need training with dealing with people with mental issues. Maybe it wouldn't have escalated to the point where the guy was throwing punches. Cops are to deescalate situations. Being so aggressive does not deescalate situations.

"I will go home..." I find that type of thinking to be an issue if you are a cop. It makes me think that at the slightest bit of danger, you are killing someone. It is that type of thinking that needs to be rooted out of the police departments around the US. These people may not go home. It sucks, I know, but they signed up to do the job and to do it right. That type of thinking among those that have authority over us that is a threat to society in my opinion.

This is so wrong. Some cops thinks that they are like gods and that they can do anything they want..
