ItsMuskrat wrote the gays and other races

Homosexuals are not a race. Be very careful with your wording.

This really upsets me. I really don't know why it's such a big deal though...

I honestly don't see a problem with this photo. They both show a group of men raising a flag that symbolically says they have won (something). In this case, it's the right to marry, and almost a century ago it meant the island.

The only people that should be offended (if even that) are the men holding the flag at Iwo Jima. Which I highly doubt considering they were fighting for these kinds of rights.

Disrespectful yes, but they have had to endure horrible things too.

Rhetoric wrote This is obviously a tribute picture.
They're not saying they've gone through the same fight at all.
The people on Iwo Jima fought for freedom, the picture above is a tribute to them and their sacrifice now that some of that freedom has actually been gained.

But let's take your idea that they are actually trying to say they've been through the same fight.
26,000 Americans died on Iwo Jima. Every year in the US alone there are 30,000 suicides.
While exact statistics are impossible to gain, it is known that gay people attempt suicide 4 times more than heterosexual people.
The number of people who have committed suicide because they were being bullied for being gay is obviously far more than those who died fighting on Iwo Jima, and those are only the ones who killed themselves, never mind the ones killed by other people.

This comparison is not disgusting, it is poignant and it is honouring those who fought for freedom on Iwo Jima.

As for people saying that no gay person has ever died for gay marriage. Seriously?
Gay rights, including marriage, have been fought for by gays since the 60's and before.
Gay people have been murdered, beaten, pushed to suicide and killed in protests so that gay marriage could be legalized.
That's like saying no black person ever died in the fight for civil rights.

I guess gay marriage is more important than our country now.

Disgusting is definitely the wrong word to use. I don't think that it is right for them to mock the original photo. Men and Women risked and lost their lives not only in Iwo Jima, but in every war. I am all for human rights, and pro-legalization of gay marriage, but thats not what built America. Our soldiers risked their lives for US. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, this is just my opinion.

You can't compare the whole gay marriage thing to something as iconic as that though. It's just disrespectful. The original picture signified that America has won, that we have won the world war. Gay Marriage only helped 2% of America.

Now is that a win, yes, it's a step forward for the lgbt community, but did they have to go and compare it to the win that affected all of America? No.

I didn't even allude to saying that, if you're going to straw man me at least do it right.
