Hi,

What do you guys think about the Theory of Evolution. I got into a small argument for mentioning the idea in front of someone who considers themselves very religious. I was just wondering what you guys think about the theory.

Its the most probable thing. With all the data behind it and no real contradicting evidence it is much easier to believe than an all knowing being in the sky who hates gays and anyone who uses their free will.
However that being said no point in arguing with some one who doesn't want a debate. Everyone should be tolerant of everybody's beliefs.

Ok so obviously this is a very touchy subject. I personally think that, considering the overwhelming evidence supporting evolution, that is has to have been the origin of current life. But then anyone who believes in creationism would disagree with me, using the bible as their evidence. I fail to see how the bible holds any evidence but who am I to decide the truth.

If one fossil is in the wrong place then the whole theory has to be changed, with the scientific community backing the theory & providing evidence there is no doubt in my mind that the current theory is true. But if there was that single fossil out of place then I would have to open up my mind and follow the next reasonable theory.

Bill Nye posed that challenge. If one creationist can find one fossil in a place where it shouldn't be, they would disprove the current theory. If Evolution is so wrong then why hasn't anyone found one yet?

Evolution is on the same playing field as Gravity for me. With the amount of evidence behind it, you might as well just call it fact.

I don't really no to be honest.

I do and I don't believe in the big bang? It's hard. Like scientists are not 100% correct so the little 5% could be Evolution

I am pretty certain, sort of 99% sure on Evolution.
Unless a new, more logical, better theory is introduced, I'll stick with it.

There is just so much evidence to support it

You're very uneducated about religion huh? You must only think the Westboro "Baptist Church" is the face of Christianity, when really they're a cult who thinks they're Christian. The old testament may talk about gay marriage being wrong, but after Jesus's crucifixion and The New Testament, it's about all free will and sins being forgiving with faith. Even the pope came out a said that who was he to judge someone if they're homosexual and seek faith.

OT: Coming from someone raised Catholic but not really "religious" anymore per say, just believing in the Christian God but I don't go to church that often. I say who really knows. The bible is a complex diary of events that has been translated through many different languages.

If people believe in a theory that the universe started from absolutely nothing, then is it really that far fetched to believe maybe a God started it? After all it is the big bang theory. And the evolutionary theory. And the religious theory.

Is it really that wrong for someone to have a little faith in a God and where they may go in the afterlife with this messed up world we live in?

No there is absolutely no problem with believing in a God, unless churches are built instead of schools and hospitals, laws are past that are biased, people are hurt, wars started ect. People have the right to believe or not to believe in whatever they want but when that belief is doing more harm than good then in my eyes it is bad. Also you seem to misunderstand scientific theories. There is no "religious theory", a theory is something that a lot of time and effort goes into, there are facts to back it up.
