The Houndius Shootius is an ancient turret added in the A Moderately Friendly Update.

When placed, the eye will watch the player when they are close to it. It will drain Sanity by -2 per minute when nearby. It is passive and will not attack the player but will attack any mobs that the player attacks first or any mob that attempts to attack the player, but cannot help defend against Shadow Creatures. The projectiles shot do 65 damage per shot and the turrets briefly emits some light when charging the shot. The Houndius Shootius can be attacked or killed by other mobs that it is currently shooting at and has 1,000 Health. The turret can be repaired using healing items, and will also passively regenerate health at a rate of 12 per second. It cannot be taken apart by either a Hammer or the Deconstruction Staff, making it more "mob" than "structure".

The Houndius Shootius's main purpose is to be used as a type of defensive turret to protect a certain area and help the player kill mobs.



Hitting the Houndius Shootius with a Ice Staff, Fire Dart or Fire Staff will cause it to attack the player.
It bears a resemblance to an Obelisk of Light from Command and Conquer.
3 Houndius Shootius can kill Deerclops (without a single one being destroyed) with minimal help from the player (100-200 damage) or if Deerclops cycles attacks between Shootius (this isn't true since he tends to focus on a single Houndius).
If a player attacks a turret, other turrets will start firing on turret, and the turret will return fire until one of them is destroyed or distracted.
