Xbox headset quality improvement in November

4.6
An upcoming Xbox 360 update, expected around the time of Kinect’s launch this November, will “significantly” improve the audio quality of the system’s headset, EG’s discovered from Xbox Live studio head Jerry Johnson.

“The codec we used when we first launched was a low bit rate codec and we stuck with that,” explained Johnson at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival today.

“We launched and we said we required broadband. We required a 64k connection, which not many people think of as broadband any longer. But that was the minimum requirement to run the service at the time.”

But now, Johnson adds, it’s time to move on.

“Especially if we want to think about broadening – a crackly headset on the top of your head – not what people think of when they talk about popular entertainment.”

probably some knd of improvement that will only be noticable with turtle beach users, or with a new headset that you may have to obtain through MS to notice the audio difference.
