Microsoft No Longer Planning to Add TV DVR Feature to the Xbox One

4.5
Microsoft are no longer planning on adding the TV DVR feature to the Xbox One any more. Originally announced back at Gamescom 2015, the feature would have allowed users to record local TV onto their console so that they could view it later, even while playing a game.

However, a Microsoft spokesperson giving a statement to The Verge revealed that they want to focus more on games than TV:

“After careful consideration, we’ve decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10. We’re always listening to fan feedback and we look forward to bringing more requested experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year.”

It’s clear that Microsoft’s priorities are firmly back on gaming with its Xbox One console, and personally, I couldn’t be happier. Good riddance.

Although once they announce they will be releasing a feature they should follow through with it but it's probably for the best to focus on the gaming experience. I could see this feature being a good idea in practice but would many people use it as much as anticipated however that could just be me. I suppose if Xbox is trying to be an entertainment system, it is more likely to be used.

This would of been so convenient for me as i watch alot of tv, I would of used this every single day. This is what i need but for them to say they are no longer planning it is a let down for me.

I probably wouldn't of used it anyways. I hardly do anything on my xbox but play games. I never use any apps or anything like that.

It would be cool if they kept/added the feature but they have to remove a feature to add another.

Personally I think this would've been a great edition. But good to see them focus on gaming

This doesn't effect me, I'm glad so they can finally improve gaming on the XB1.
