Microsoft is thinking about digital trade-ins for Xbox One games

4.5
Even as we look at the prospect of an all digital future for all of our media, including, yes, for video games, we need to come to terms with the restrictions that going digital imposes on us- for instance, in a very real sense, we no longer ‘own’ our digital media, because ‘ownership’ is traditionally defined as the ability to sell and resell property forwards, should we choose to.

However, that might be about to change soon. In what might be a dramatic step forward for digital ownership rights, Microsoft may be looking at introducing a form of digital games reselling. In a survey, Microsoft asked respondents if they would feel okay reselling a digital game they own for 10% of the game’s price. While 10% does not sound like a whole lot (it would be only $6 for a full priced game), this is the first indication we have even gotten of the ability to sell our digital games onward.

How would this work, though? Who would we sell the games to? Would it just be us relinquishing our license for a small monetary benefit? Would we be able to sell our games to our friends, for example? How would this work with discounts?

A lot is unknown right now- but it’s good to see that someone is having a conversation about this all important topic.

Im guessing nobody is going to do this as it is not worth it at all.

They wouldn't be able to sell the game to other people, otherwise there would be no reason at all to pay full price for them from Microsoft lol.

wow only 10% for a trade in, i get that its yano not actually there but 10% is ridiculous

10% is a bit tight to be honest

If they could bump it up a tad more it would be great, but if you look at it getting some money back is better then letting a digital game just sit there to never be used again

This would be a great addition to xbox and would really shoot them on top of Sony.

I would be happy to get some money back from games i no longer use.

I like the idea of this but not Micro$oft taking 10%. They should do the same thing Steam did where you get the full price refunded but you have to refund within 2 weeks of buying the game and have a certain gametime on it.

Prices for digital games are too high, they need to address that before anything else
