CES 2016: Sony says PlayStation VR will have over 100 titles

4.6
With so much news getting devoted to the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, and other VR headsets, Sony wants to make sure you remember their offering as well. When speaking to BBC, Sony confirmed that there will be over 100 games available to play on the PlayStation VR, as well as other interesting features.

This news comes by way of an interview BBC had with Kaz Hirai. Hirai is the president and CEO of Sony. "I think the fact that we have more than 200 developers signed up for the PlayStation VR program, who are working on probably about 100 or more titles that will play on PlayStation VR, is a testament to the kind of support we are getting from the content creation community on the PlayStation VR," Hirai said.

Hirai also confirmed that the PlayStation VR is still scheduled to be releasing later this year, but didn't mention anything related to a price for the headset.

When asked what will set the PlayStation VR headset apart from the competition, the biggest feature Hirai mentioned was how immersive players feel when using the device. "For us, it's all about making a better and more immersive gameplay experience," Hirai said.

At the end of the interview, Hirai teased other features for the headset, especially those related to watching videos. Before getting to that point though, Hirai recognizes that they need to win over the gaming audience first. "Once we have a lot of people who are really into virtual reality through games, I think we will really be able to expand beyond gaming," Hirai mentioned, "especially because we have a lot of content that we create ourselves through Sony Pictures Entertainment."

RepBandit Will this make people have to wear glasses in the long run? You're actually so close to the screen in VR compared to a television..

That's what I thought, surely it would damage eye vision

JTHM Really cool, but also really pricey.

Im guessing it is not going to be too much money, over time the price will go down, as does everything.

I really want a VR headset, but damn 600 dollars for the Oclulus. Are you kidding me?

This is one piece of tech that I will not be an early adopter for.

I honestly feel like they're videos will be a lot better on this than gaming would.

Easy to say....much harder to make it reality. 100+ games?? we'll see about about.

I have a feeling tons of people will be dissapointed w/ VR / AR devices.
It will go the way of the Kinect.

I hope when it does it is actually affordable for everyone.
