Linux on the PS4 running Pokemon

4.5
At the Chaos Communication Congress failoverflow showed us a Linux running on the PS4 with a special version of pokemon running on it. They didn’t talk about it like the 3DS hacking just a few slides and a video of it in action.

Now it’s hard to say what firmware they are using to do this with but if I had to guess I would say 1.76Fw as we know it has the WebKit exploit in it but they use the PS4 user guide as their entry point. Thanks to biteyourconsole they recorded this for everyone to see, you can check out the short video below.

can't wait to see what this all leads to!

I saw this earlier and it's really cool how they managed to pull this off on a newer gaming console. Hopefully this leads to bigger and better things in the future

thePiManx equivalent to showing us the King Kong exploit now, but still using the OLD Xbox 360 Blade Dashboard on the unit.

if its not on the current firmware, then this means nothing.

It does show something actually :L

It shows that this is actually possible, and that there is reason to believe that there are more exploits in later firmwares that haven't been announced yet.

no it does not.

think of it this way.
iOS, they show you a exploit for iOS 8.0 because they never updated. but the current firmware is at 9.0. because apple patched it and that 8.0 exploit, no longer works on 9.0. gotta find a new one.

like i said, if not on the current firmware, it means nothing.

rofl. this isn't for some crap so you can mod you CoD lobbies. This is actually pretty amazing. And this is how things start. It might just snowball from here. This shows it is possible to begin with.

JRMH People are praising this, as if hacking isn't what ruins nearly every AAA game. Ha. F/cking losers lmao.

People are praising this because it is a pretty remarkable thing as far as computer science goes. You are taking a device and making it do something that it was never meant to do. If anything you are the loser for not seeing the whole point behind it. This has nothing to do with "hacking" like you are talking.

Yeah So Basically this means PS4 will have mods on bigger games soon

Hacking/modding like this is always fun to see. It will be interesting to see how much more complex mods will be for the new generation consoles in the coming years.
