A PS4 gamer got a pretty big surprise recently while he was playing GTA Online: his DualShock 4 controller caught fire. The gamer noticed smoke coming out of his controller, which of course put a swift end to the game.

Redditor Chino1130 posted an image of his controller, saying that it caught fire while he was playing GTA Online this morning.

From the look of it, it appears that the lithium ion battery in the controller malfunctioned and burned the plastic cover that separates it from the logic board.

According to Chino1130, the battery itself is the original in the controller, not an aftermarket one. This is the first time we’ve heard a DualShock 4 controller catching fire.
