Bethesda talks Fallout 4 mods on Xbox One

4.7
Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios certainly took ample time to listen to the feedback of fans and they seem to have made changes to major features in Fallout 4. The addition of mods in Fallout 4 will be a major game changer, especially for those who have a creative impulse with mods in gaming. Bethesda's Pete Hines spoke about mods and how players can think about what it will look like.

"This is not about 'well you have to have a PC and you have to do it yourself'. The idea is you go to play the game, there's a menu option, you click on it and there's just a bunch of stuff for you to download. You click on the stuff that you want and you start playing a game with these new mods. We want it to be a really streamlined, fun experience. There are still specifics that we have to work out, it's part of our post-launch plan, but certainly it's something very exciting for our fans," Hines told Xbox.

Fallout 4 was a massive game for Bethesda Game Studios to work on and it will take time for mods to come to the game on Xbox One. From the way Hines describes how mods will work though, the experience of Fallout 4 on Xbox One will certainly be enhanced and varied up greatly as a result.

Gamers who experienced Fallout 3 will surely be familiar with the VATS system and how it works within the game. Bethesda has made some subtle, but meaningful improvements to VATS. Hines illustrated the improvements and changes players can expect in Fallout 4.

"The idea of VATS was always to kind of heighten the experience of combat and to make it a little bit more tactical to where it wasn't always in real-time. With Fallout 4, you still have that ability, but they've pushed it a little bit so that it no longer stops time. In Fallout 3, when you would hit the VATS button, everything would freeze until you made all of your choices.

"Now things move in a slow time state, so you still have the ability to do tactical, but you can't just sit there and do nothing forever. Guys are still attacking you, they're still shooting, the mole rat is still trying to eat you. You have time to be a little bit more tactical and strategic...but there is a little bit of a time pressure there, which I think helps keep up the intensity of combat," Hines said.

Lend Why not talk about mods for the PC? Why are they not allowed to charge?

Oh jeez, people still think they should be allowed to do this crap? Lmao.

I personally plan on getting the PC version of the game, so this is pretty irrelevant to me anyway

Probably because there is no guarantee that all mods will work with each other, with official DLC, or when the game has an update/patch. Not to mention people who use copyright material in their mods. You can't just charge for something that doesn't belong to you. There has always been a way to donate to mod developers anyway.

I believe they said a lot of people bought broken mods or something in the past so they took off the option to charge. However you can still donate I believe.

Maybe it have to do something with MS / PS purchasing content rules? I highly doubt that MS or PS would allow random developers to charge for mods within a game but maybe I am wrong.
