Yoshida on PSN name changes “we don’t know if we can ever do it”

Sony is looking into one of PSN users’ most-requested features, but it may never happen.


Sony has yet to deliver a top-requested feature to PlayStation Network users everywhere; the ability to change account names. According to Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, as of right now, the company doesn’t know if it can be done.

Here he is answering this fan question.

Microsoft offers users the ability to change their Gamertags any number of times, with the first time being free.x

Yeah. It's awful. Such a simple thing they missed out on.

It's stupid how you'd have to make a whole new account just to have a new name. But that's Sony for you.

I think they'll eventually get it out; they are asking us playstation users in polls on updates we'd like and that is one of them; if it gets enough attention we'll see it.

It's pretty sad, Playstations competitor, Xbox, has this feature, and has had this feature, for as long as I can remember.

Sony should have planned for PS name changes back on PS3, but they didn't. Big mistake I think...

Urf Not sure why people are having a stroke over this. If you can't pick a name and stick with it then you need to grow up. Do you change the name your parents gave you every 2 weeks when you get bored of it?


A lot of people joined when they were immature kids. I know I definitely wouldn't wanna be known as xXNoScopedUrWaifu6969Xx for the rest of my time on PSN/XBL.
