Will PS4 ever be backward compatible with PS3 games? “No,”says Yoshida

4.5
Sony has reiterated it has no intention of bringing backward compatibility to PlayStation 4.

Head of PlayStation Europe, Jim Ryan, said as much back in June, as did Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida.

The earliest PS3 model was backward compatible with PS2, but wasn’t “greatly used,” according to Sony.

“PS3 is such a unique architecture, and some games made use of SPUs very well,” Yoshida said at the time. “It’s going to be super challenging to do so. I never say never, but we have no plans.”

At Paris Games Week, Yoshida once again said Sony didn’t have plans to include backward compatibility, by stating “no” when asked.

So, there we have it then.

Faux25 well thats not really true due to ps now but imo its good that they are not doing it who buys a current gen to play last gen no one

actually alot of people would love to play las gen games on the new consoles i know i would rather play alot of the old games because they are alot better than most of the new ones so far

Swift If I bought my PS4 to play PS3 games they would not have bought a PS4 in the beginning. I would have saved 200 dollars and bought a PS3.

I've used the feature on the Xbox One and I will say that its not all that its lived up to be, I mean playing Mass Effect is fun in all but it does not age well.

-BRZ- Personally, I'm glad Sony says "No" to Backwards Compatibility. I'd rather PlayStation implement new features and focus on more current gen things. I just feel that harping on Backwards Compatibility is a backwards move. I feel that we need to let go of last-gen console games ,and devote complete time to new features and developing on just current-gen games. Just my opinion.

I'm going to disagree. Being able to play 360 games on xbox one was an extremely hard thing for xbox to do if it was so hard wouldn't that mean a move forward and not backward? It's a feature for Xbox One so I consider that a move forward in my book.

Didnt PS3 have PS2 and PS1 backward compatible? Maybe they just saw not many used that feature and now that XBOX ONe has it, PS4 users want it as well
