Many users are required to re-download Halo 5: Guardians

4.9
Microsoft’s latest entry to their sci-fi shooter franchise 'Halo 5: Guardians' is scheduled to release next week, and for those who have pre-ordered via Xbox Live, the base game is currently available to download. With the final game's files close to a hefty 60GB, pre-downloading will save time at launch, however does carry its own technicalities.

According to a recent post to the official Halo site, many gamers are carrying placeholder versions of the game, due to an error with the Xbox Store. For those who began pre-loading before September 21st, there is a possible chance that the game download may have contained a stub file, which is used as a placeholder before release. This problem has been corrected, and should be automatically fixed for those who use the Xbox One’s ‘Instant On’ mode.

For those who have the feature disabled, there is a high chance the game will need to be re-installed. To check your game files to verify the placeholder has been removed, follow the steps given by Microsoft below.

Go to My games & apps
Sort your game collection by selecting Installed and Sort by size
If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is greater than 40 GB, you’ve got the correct version, and you’re ready to download the necessary updates when they become available.
If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is less than 40 GB, you’ve got an incorrect stub file, and will need to delete that version and reinstall the game.

This has the possibility to affect owners of both the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector's Edition, and themed console, due to the provided code for a digital download. Luckily for those affected, the bug has been discovered before launch, with days to spare. Halo 5: Guardians releases worldwide on October 27th, exclusively for Xbox One.

Never really liked downloading full games. Prefer the disc. It has its advantages and disadvantages

Glad I didn't have to re-install, although it wouldn't take too long it's good they caught this before the game was released.

That's unfortunate for anyone whos had to re-install it, luckily I'm getting a physical copy.

I really cannot wait, this weekend is going to feel really slow because I'm so excited for this.

You're really THAT bothered because the pre-load wasn't set up properly?
What difference would it really make to the final game?
