Sony cuts PlayStation 4 prices around the world

4.4
Last month, Sony announced a permanent price cut to its PlayStation 4 in Japan, and a few weeks later, it followed up with similar reductions in the US and Canada. Now, it's extended the price drop to a ton of additional markets around the world.

The price cuts come into effect today across what the company refers to as the 'SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) region', although this region also includes the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.

The most affordable 500GB PlayStation 4 now starts at the following prices in these markets:

United Kingdom: £299.99 GBP
Eurozone (except Austria and Germany): €349.99 EUR
Austria and Germany: €349.95 EUR
Australia: $479.95 AUD
New Zealand: $569.95 NZD
United Arab Emirates: 1399 AED

Sony's decision to reduce the cost of its console comes ahead of the all-important holiday shopping season, and the company will no doubt be hoping that the new entry-level price point proves enticing enough to consumers to give it a commanding sales lead over Microsoft's Xbox One.

Glad they dropped, although I bought my Playstation a month too early, shame.

The consoles should drop to the same price. They are both great, why should they try to compete. Let the users have a fair gain for their cash with what they want. I hate how they try to make you buy because a lower price.

Robbed I think they're doing this because xbox are playing catchup on sales.

The xbone is still at maybe half the sales that the PS4 has though. I doubt they are worried about Microsoft actually catching up.

They need to reduce the price, with the introduction of decent PC gaming (Windows 10) and reverse compatibility, etc.

This is good for people that are actually still buying PS though! lol

Thats decent that only 300 quid for a PS4 thats nothing at all, might consider getting this and the xbox one, Best of both worlds.

Good for those who are looking to get a new console, think the price has been around this on amazon already but I could be wrong.

The gap between the two has actually continued to grow, I think the Xbox will outsell the PS4 during November through to January, with Black Friday, Xmas presents and deals and new year deals coming out.
