PS4 Home Menu May Be Getting Ads Soon

4.5
More and more, Sony and the PS4 are beginning to resemble the Xbox 360 and Microsoft from last generation- the same ease of use and development, leading to a favorable environment for third party development, leading in turn to superior multiplatform games and graphical superiority. The same reliance on timed exclusive DLC and exclusive content for multiplatform games, alongside a de-emphasizing of actual exclusives and first party investment. Paid online.

Now there’s another point to chalk up- apparently, Sony are looking to push ads to the PS4 home menu. Neogaf user MMaRsu reports that when he fired up his PS4 to check if Metal Gear Online was working for him, he got greeted by a Destiny logo on his homescreen instead. He doesn’t own Destiny, so he clicked on the icon. Clicking the icon resulted in being directed to the PS Store.

Cokes It's crazy how the community let ads take over the Xbox dashboard. The dash for the Xbox One is already bad, but the advertisements for it are annoying and invasive, the 360 especially. Considering it's a paid service, we should have the options to disable it. Sony is following that same road as Microsoft it seems like. Pretty unfortunate.

Paying $50 a year and still have to see ads is irritating. Steam is free and has no ads, so what's up with this?

Because its PC lol, games are better, also looks and runs better. We can get you`re 60$ games for like 10$ and service is free. Oh and guess what. Free name changes hahahha that`s the best joke of all time having to pay to change your GT...

It's only a matter of time until every single game will contain ads. I'm pretty sure I can see in maybe 10 years time? Ubisoft and EA will release a subscription in which will cost like $75 a year to contain no ads in any game at all. Actually, seeing as how expensive games are today I can't imagine what they'll be like in the future.

Ads are just annoying imo. Although sometimes it helps you discover new releases.

Adblock PS4 Edition confirmed.

If they're like Xbox ads then you won't even notice them unless you actually stay on your dashboard for more than 10 seconds :)

I had that same ad on my PS4 when I got on earlier. However, I didn't click it figuring it was a glitch or something. Now I know it was just an ad.

That's lame, I hate ads although I don't notice them on the xbox too much I feel on the PS dashboard from my newby experience would be weird.
