GTA Online updates no longer being released for PS3 and Xbox 360

Rockstar Games said that they will no longer be releasing GTA Online updates for PS3 and Xbox 360. As announced today the new Freemode Events update will be coming September 15th, but it will not be seeing it's way onto PS3 or Xbox 360 consoles.

The reason for no longer releasing updates to older consoles is it has become impossible for the technology of the older consoles to support it. Rockstar Games has said last December that some updates would be impossible to release for older consoles and that they would do all they could for as long as possible.

A statement provided to Kotaku UK:
"As we mentioned previously, we always knew there might be a point where we would reach the technical capacity of what the older generation of consoles can handle as each downloadable update requires additional memory both for assets and for additional scripting. We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall."

Now all they need to do is stop making games for past-gen. It will now give people more incentive to buy current gen.

Its CURRENT gen but whatever. And why b/c you can't mod anymore? What's there not to like about it I don't get it. Why play on those dinosaurs?


I would say that xbox one and ps4 still qualify to be called next gen until it has more owners/players than the 360 and ps3. Most people call it "Next Gen" because they haven't bought it and are still using the older consoles.


How is it still called next gen?? The consoles has been released for almost 2 years......... If someone can't afford to put $20 a month for an Xbox in the course of 2 years they are straight up poor. Xbox one and ps4 are current gen ( belonging to the present time ) not next gen....... Last gen are Xbox 360 and PS3 because they are from the last generation of the consoles.......


Why would anyone want a broken ass console? both sides feature STILL low count of games, which most of can be owned on previous gen, including the BETTER games like Skyrim (as opposed to ESO), Black Ops 2 (as opposed to Ghosts/AW/BO3), etc. There are more people on old-gen still, and honestly I haven't seen a reason to give it up besides GTAV and games that havent even come out yet...

No, because no one ever said that.

Anyways, I don't see how any gaming company, is still making games for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The hardware in them, is just so old. I don't see how they are making games for them.
