iPhone 6s said to feature 12-megapixel camera, 4K video recording

4.7
12-megapixel photos, 4K video recording and a front-facing flash-like feature for selfies, are all coming to the next iPhone, according to 9to5Mac.

The report comes less than two weeks before Apple's September 9 iPhone event, where the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are expected to be unveiled. The next iPhone is also anticipated to be available in a pink-type color named ‘Rose Gold’, similar to the Apple Watch.

The camera upgrade will be the first increase in the iPhone's megapixel count since the iPhone 4s in 2011. Sources quoted in the report claim that the improved image signal processor with the new A9 system-on-a-chip will prevent photos from being washed out or of lesser quality. The report is unclear whether the new phones will have a native 12-megapixel sensor or a cropped 13-megapixel sensor, for digital image stabilization purposes.

4K video recording support is also said to be coming to the iPhone for the first time. The improved video capabilities are expected to take a key role in marketing the device following the current 'Shot on iPhone 6' campaign.

Specs on the upgraded front-facing camera were not revealed, though it is expected to be capable of panorama shots and 720p slow motion video. Flash functionality will also be introduced to the front camera; however, the report dismissed claims that it will be an LED flash unit.

"While some industry watchers have speculated that code in iOS 9 betas indicates that Apple will add a front-facing LED flash to the new iPhones, sources say that is not the case.

Instead, the new iPhone’s display will take cues from Snapchat and Photo Booth, lighting up with a quick white screen when the shutter button for the front camera is pressed."

No new photos were included in the report but recent leaks suggest the iPhone 6s will have a similar form-factor to the iPhone 6.

NaturallyHated And the OnePlus One that has been out for over a year now already has a 12mp camera and 4k videos recording capabilities alont with the "front facing flash". This is old and Apple is just barely integrating them, how sad.

Eli I know what phone I'm getting next.

What phone are you getting next?

Anyways, on a side note, I don't want an iPhone. I remember reading another post, that said the whole #bendgate thing, was taken way out of proportion, which is what Apple said. And I completely disagree with that, you make a phone that bends, which ultimately messes it up. And then expect your customers, the people who bought the phone to not freak out about it. I shake my head on that whole fiasco.

Also, in my opinion, I think Android has some better phone, with better phones than iPhones. I just feel like iPhones are way overpriced as it is, and the new iPhone, is probably going to be even more overpriced than the current ones.

The 6s is going to be around $1000

Yes if you are buying an unlocked phone that has no carrier.

It doesn't matter whether you're buying unlocked or on a contract you're still going to be paying that price in the end. By the time you're done with your payments the phone still comes out to the same price as an unlocked phone. When you buy it unlocked you're just paying the total amount at once; if you're on a contract you're still paying the same price just over time.
