PlayStation Plus prices to be increased in Europe and the UK

PlayStation Plus subscribers in Europe and the UK will start paying 25% extra come September 1.

Sony has confirmed that it’s increasing the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions in mainland Europe and the UK. The price hike affects the one month and three month membership options.

Following a report from Push Square towards the end of last week, the publisher’s UK arm has today confirmed it in a new statement.

“We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content,” reads the statement. “From 1st September we will be increasing the price of monthly and three month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions. We will continue to invest in PlayStation Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features.”

Sony confirmed the price increase to Gamespot, noting that the annual PlayStation Plus subscription, which costs £39.99, will not be changed.

Pricing was confirmed to TechRadar: the one-month option will increase from £5.49 to £5.99; the three-month subscription will increase from £11.99 to £14.99.

Sony has not said whether subscribers in the US will also be affected.

In late 2014 the company increased the price of the service by 51% in South Africa.

Playstation is already making bank so I do not see why they have to increase the price for Playstation Plus.

Hurleh Woow its pretty much the same as xbox now, I've heard people are leaving for xbox now.

The 1 year membership will cst exactly the same, and considering you already save money by buying the 1 year membershit it will now be an even better deal. I know not everyone buys 1 years worth but it will definitely be worth it now.

I can already see few people dropping PS4 and switching to Xbox because of this, then probably coming back to PS4.

TMH_x_Modder HAHA everyone thought sony were great with their cheap ps4 consoles, now look, cant have backwords compatibility, raising the prices off online, when have xbox raised the price of gold

Meanwhile PC players just laugh at both PlayStation and Xbox charging their users to play ;)

Nothing really wrong with charging for them to play, it cost money to run those networks obviously.

It seems just like a really clever ploy to get people to buy the year long subscription. Honestly all this does thought is bring it up to the same price point as Xbox Gold. And since its still cheaper then Xbox here in the U.S. I think a price hike is likely to happen.
