Google unveils surprise restructuring under Alphabet

4.8
Google has announced a new plan for its operating structure to streamline its organization and that Sundar Pichai will become the CEO of Google. Larry Page made this announcement on the company's blog and says that Google is going to be restructured and that he and Sergey Brin will now run Alphabet, a larger organization which contains Google and many of the other companies Google has acquired over the years.

The idea behind this massive reorganization is to keep Google focused on what it does best and not become overburdened with the many acquisitions that company has completed in the last few years. To do this, Larry Page and Sergey Brin have created Alphabet, a single organization that oversees all of the smaller organizations that now contains Google too.

According to the SEC, Google will retain search, ads, maps, the Google Play Store, YouTube and Android but other companies like, the recently acquired Boston Dynamics, will not be under Pichai.

Larry and Sergey note that they are in the business of creating 'things' and that they will oversee and control the budgets of each company under the Alphabet organization and with Google now under the control of Pichai, this frees them up to work on other projects.

There is a massive change to Google's organizational structure, and likely warranted too, as the company has grown to be a massive entity. By breaking up the components into smaller operational bits, it should allow for each group to be more focused on their own specific goals.

I hope you're joking...Windows 10 has been out for basically 2 weeks now.
You have Google under your finger tips. Learn to use it.

Very smart move by google here.

This is actually very smart on Google. Now if a service of Google does not do so well, that division will get "blamed" instead of Google itself.
