Sony announces a lighter PS4 and a new 1TB console

Sony has announced a 1TB PS4 model due for release next month, as well as a new lighter and less power hungry 500GB model.

The 1TB PS4 Ultimate Player Edition launches before the end of June in Japan, and comes to Europe July 15. As for the 500GB model, it also launches in Japan at the end of June. Sony has not yet revealed a date for North America and Europe.

The new 500GB model is 10 percent lighter than the current version and uses 8 percent less energy. It will feature a matte finish on the HDD cover and comes in black and white.

The 1TB model will continue to use original console architecture, the platform holder told Eurogamer.

We’re still waiting on retailers to price the console and will update as soon as we know more.

Because it's gonna bring in some serious cash haha. I actually think this is a good idea though, just because it's a really power efficient console that has really pushed the limits with the 1TB storage.

I don't see why people won't want a lighter console. Have any of your ever moved or taken your console on vacation? Imagine how much easier it is going to be on your back having your PS4 in a backpack.

Everyone saying that the weight doesnt matter. Well to you it might not but what if someone is in a military family and they always move, having this be just one more lighter thing can make their trips just that much less heavy. If you take your console with you on airplanes then this will be good for you. Sure the weight isnt a huge necessity but guess what.. You dont have to buy it

The 1TB upgrade is great but getting it lighter means any child close to the console can move or pick it up.

making the console lighter is not necessary in my opinion because it does not really bother anyone but it is nice that they are maming a 1TB console for the people just buying it but again not really something necessary now that everyone has a external on there 500gb consoles anyway its really something that should have been there from the start

The weight of the console doesn't matter unless you carry it with you while you play... Just another way to try and get the sales on par with Xbox smh.

Serious. Lighter PS4? What difference does that make not going to be carrying it round also you can buy like 1TB HDD and USB's what a waste of money.
