Need for Speed 2015 Petition Created To Remove Always Online

4.8
Having a game that’s typically focused on single-player content suddenly require and force gamers to have to be online usually doesn’t go down well in the gaming community. In the case of the Need For Speed, the upcoming reboot for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, the revelation that the game would require online internet and Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus to play, prompted some gamers to start the expected Change.org petition asking EA and Ghost Games to remove the online barrier, while other gamers took to forums, chats and YouTube to decry the decision.

The petition on Change.org to remove the always-on feature from the barely-announced Need For Speed reboot (and truly, we barely know much of anything about the game based on the sparse bit of information available) draws comparisons to the 2013 release of SimCity as a route not to go, especially since it ultimately ended with Maxis shutting down. Petition creator Jesse Young writes…
“EA and Ghost, we get that you want to push for more seamless, more interactive experiences with Need for Speed and other franchises of yours, but there can be a way to allow for this to happen without pushing away your consumers and fan-base.

“So I’m pleading you, along with many others, to remove the always-online requirement from the Need for Speed reboot. This may allow you to regain some of your lost potential buyers and can be one step towards improving both the link between publishers/developers and the public.”

I feel the same way, after I played Pro Street I never touched another NFS game. NFS Underground 2 and Most Wanted were the best games by far.

Always online should be banished from video games forever. Put simply it's stupid. There's absolutely no reason for this foolishness and whoever came up with the idea should have his head on a stake.

Featured I never knew that NFS 2015 was online only..

That's annoying considering I liked the story mode on most wanted

ProJimmyRustler I don't see why this is even an issue.
If you have a Next Gen console you basically need internet in order to even play most games, because they need day one updates.

Sure, I understand that some people don't have strong connections, but always online is a feature that will be useful in games.

People made a big deal about it when next gen consoles first came out.
If you chose to not buy a game because of "always online' then you really aren't as much of a fan that you claim to be.

Always online is a horrible idea, yes not everyone has a stable connection and the servers the games connect to go down all the time so you can't play the game you paid for. I would have thought EA would learn from their mistakes with Sim City. Ubisoft did the same thing with Assassins Creed 2 on PC and the servers went down so much it was impossible to play the game for weeks at a time.

So you're basically saying never try to innovate the market just stick with what works currently?... Obviously they will be issues as it's something new? The point is if people actually supported these decisions it would likely benefit faster and be ironed out quicker. Just a classic situation where consumers have their opinion but should probably just not say anything..

I hope they do get their change. I don't see why a racing game should have this. I'm keeping my eyes on this Need For Speed. It going to underground street racing is something I dig. I remember playing Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition. That game was pretty awesome in my opinion.
