Background Music Not Coming To Xbox One Until After Windows 10

4.5
Xbox One owners have been waiting to get a background music feature for some time now. One fan decided to tweet at Microsoft’s head of the Xbox division and get to the bottom of it.

Luckily for us, Phil Spencer answered the question of background music with a tweet of his own. “We have to land Win10 on XB1 before we’ll get background music, so a little later,” he said. So there you have it. Xbox One needs Windows 10, before it can have background music. There still hasn’t been an official release date for Windows 10, but it is rumored to be some time in the to early fall.

Microsoft will be having thier press conference at E3 next month. More details on this matter might be available then. We’ll have to wait and see.

Ain't nothing wrong with some background music.

I loved it on the 360.

I love this feature. I have always used it.

I remember using this feature on the 360 when i was playing NFS Carbon. Sucks that many features that were on the 360 are not on the ONE.

Also, lets not forget the 360 had this feature for years and worked fine. There were a couple issues with it, like it playing during cut scenes, but the UI was simplistic enough to quickly mute the music ahead of time.

Tricks I am one of those people who want background music and I just don't get it. Obviously I'm not a developed, but how hard is it to let music play in the background? It speaks volumes that they're more concerned with putting Windows 10 on Xbox (which no one asked for) than they are listening to their buyers and what they want.

HAHA it's VERY difficult to implement this without **** up the whole system. Let's not forget that the xbox one stays on even when you turn it off. They have to engineer the feature so that the music will get very quiet during cutscenes, etc... So yes... it's not as simple

Really? Are you an XboxOS dev? You can already play music when snapped via YouTube or the Media Player application, all they need to do is implement an option within the MP app to allow background playback -- something $20 cellphones can accomplish. I HIGHLY doubt it's anything difficult to implement, it's not an incompetence issue. It sounds like they're just putting menial things on the back burner until a Win10 variant is pushed to the Xbone, which makes complete sense. They should just come out and say it instead of making excuses, though.

Hopefully it gets implemented without any issues.

I don't think they need Windows 10, more that they want to release it before they implement background music.

weird because it seems windows does this automatically on pc with no problems even on windows xp, strange, just sounds like an excuse tbh, it could easily be implemented, they are just taking their sweet sweet time with it, as always is the case with M$
