Edge is the new name for Microsoft's Spartan browser

4.7
Developed under the codename 'Project Spartan', early builds of the browser were spotted earlier this year, but it wasn't until the release of Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10049 last month that testers were finally able to get their hands on it.

And today, Microsoft confirmed that the new name for its browser is indeed, Microsoft Edge. Edge was widely mooted as a possible name for the browser, given that Spartan was developed using a new rendering engine also called Edge.

The Edge name also emerged as a possible contender in January, when details of focus group testing revealed that Microsoft was considering several possibilities to replace the Spartan branding, including Elixa, Entourage and Edge. Some users also hoped that the company might retain the Spartan name, which originated from the company's Halo series, given that it did the same with its Cortana digital assistant.

If I'm honest, this stomps on the other browsers. I'm sure in tests, it's already faster than all of them.

Just waiting for bug fixes and the ability to set the page loaded on statup

I find it too hard for me or anybody to leave the beloved Google Chrome.

For all of those that are staying with the browsers that they are using at the moment, all i can say is dont. I have the windows update preview and i already have 'project spartan' early build and if i say so myself it is great. Although it is buggy in the early build i believe when they release this fully it will be crisp and prestine. It is already proven to be the fastest browser in the world and that includes the top of the market google chrome browser. Basically im saying, dont be so single minded and move forward not back

Ill stay with the browser I already use

for a browser, I don't need extra features. Nobody does. That's a retarded reason to want a browser. We just want speed. That's it.

The browser was a good idea but it will probably be ruined by Bing and the Microsoft bloatware attached to it. Like many people here, I will try it but I cannot see myself moving from chrome.

Can't see myself leaving Chrome anytime soon. But considering the amount of time MS have put into this it must be good surely.

Miss I definitely think it's going to be a good browser considering how much time they've been putting into developing it. Greatly looking forward to giving it a try.

Hopefully it is good and a improvement from Internet explorer.

Even though it will probably be amazing, once I have win 10 I think I will stick to chrome but that may change depending on how this Edge is.
