GTA 5 topples Skyrim’s record for highest concurrent players on Steam

Not factoring in Valve games, GTA 5 is the new king of concurrent player numbers on Steam.

GTA 5 is very popular on PC, even more popular than games like Skyrim in its heyday. The number of concurrent players for GTA 5 has peaked today at 301,246.

This makes it the only non-Valve game to ever reach that record, beating Skyrim’s record of 280,000, which was also achieved on launch.

The numbers are all the more impressive when you consider the phenomenon that Skyrim was, and the fact that this is the third time GTA 5 has been released.

DeluxeHazard Well GTAV was a huge success on consoles and the hype for its release on PC was incredibly huge.

The wait was worth it I guess lol. The mods are one main reason why there is so many people playing I am guessing.

Never really enjoyed syrim, it was a single player game so i found it quite boring, love gta tho!

Sanctyy I'm not too surprised by this tbh. I was never a fan of Skyrim, I have no idea how it was so popular at the time. I just never seen the appeal, personally.

Skyrim was amazing I don't see how you could not like it

to be honest it is probably the best single player game to come out in the last 10 years. Skyrim on PC is also very moddable with thousands of cool mods to keep the game fresh and not repetitive. Its great because its an open world game like GTA but it is also an RPG so you can customize your character and his destiny pretty much.
