GTA 5 is the fifth most expensive entertainment product ever

4.5
GTA 5 was astonishingly expensive to build.

Grand Theft Auto 5 had a total budget of $268 million, according to the latest Did You Know Gaming episode.

That means it is the fifth most expensive entertainment product of all time after inflation adjustments, and the third most expensive game. Only Destiny and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were more expensive to build and promote.

Of course, it paid off; GTA 5 went on to set five Guinness World Records with phenomenal sales. These and many other interesting nuggets from the franchise’s history are discussed in detail below.

This is amazing news for them I guess.

These games turn out horrible for that amount..Star Citizen only has about 80Mill and look what kind of game it's turning into.

I do like the game, though. But for 250+Million, this should have been a game that was 1:1 Earth scale with quite a bit more into it.

well i guess so, its the only game series where you can drive around the world shooting anyone you want, mostly everything you can do irl. And they have done amazing in this game.

thats quite a bit of money to put into a game... more than most movie budgets.

268 million, damn, huge amount of money to invest in a game. Very surprised that MW2 cost as much as it did though.

MW2 had so much promotion back before it came out. OMG. As we all know advertising is expensive.

I'm also very surprised that Mw2 was one of the highest budgetde games? More than $268 Million? Wow!

Never knew MW2 was still one of the highest budgeted games.

I don't think this comes to much as a surprise for most of us! Play big, win bigger! It certainly paid off here.

Not surprised really. It made almost one billion dollars opening day. I just wish they would have listed numbers 1-4.
