‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2′ Remake Petition Nears 200,000

The eighth console generation may be less than two years old, but we’ve already seen a heap of remakes and remastered editions attempt to bring older games into the Xbox One and PS4 era. Some games (like Tomb Raider) didn’t bring many changes to the table, but other ports (like Diablo 3) made some great improvements. Even so, many current-gen gamers complain that developers should be working on new IPs or sequels, rather than throwing a fresh coat of paint on a two-year old game, but a recent petition proves that a sizable group of FPS fans want to revisit a modern classic.

The Call of Duty franchise saw less sales with the 2014 release, Advanced Warfare, and the military shooter franchise has definitely had a bit of a fall from grace, in both sales and quality, over the last couple years. Although Advanced Warfare is still releasing DLC to keep the community busy, a pool of nostalgic Call of Duty fans would prefer to revisit one of the milestone games in the franchise’s long run: Modern Warfare 2.

As of this writing, the petition is at 184,822 signatures and the comments section is full of fans who would love to purchase the game on a current-gen console. But as we’ve learned in the past many times, it takes a lot more than signatures to bring a game to life.

The studio and developers behind Call of Duty have quite a bit on their plates already with the annual release schedule that the franchise follows, so it would probably take a lot of convincing to redirect resources to another project. That said, sales for Call of Duty have been somewhat declining and some would argue the franchise is in serious need of a revitalization. It may seem like a cop out to turn to a re-release to breathe fresh life into the franchise, but returning to a classic like Modern Warfare 2 would definitely catch the attention of some of the fans that have jumped ship.

iStussy I really hope they don't pull through with this. People think it is going to be the same as back in the day but times have changed and the game won't be as fun.

They passed there goal a long time ago. However, I feel they won't re-make it. They don't seem to understand the real concept of making money: Give the consumer what they want. 'They don't want a re-mastered game like they keep saying. They obviously want a new game that turns to be worthless.'

Even after all this is done and over, I don't think they are willing to remake the game.

If they do, however, I will be purchasing a newt-gen console mainly for this.
