Microsoft announces Windows 10 release set for this summer

4.7
Microsoft plans to release Windows 10 this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages, the company announced today, though a specific date was not named.

In a blog post on the Windows website, Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft's operating systems team, didn't elaborate on the release time frame beyond saying it was shared at the Windows Hardware Engineering Community event in Shenzhen, China, today. The time frame aligns with an earlier Neowin report that the company is planning to finish the operating system in June to ready it for consumer consumption.

While specific territories weren't provided, the announcement of 190 countries likely means all major consumer markets will see a roughly simultaneous release.

Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for consumer devices with Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1 in its first year, though businesses will have to pay for enterprise operating system upgrades. Computer users can currently test the preview version of the operating system, while a select number of Lumia smartphones can test its mobile version, with support for more phones coming soon.

Windows 8 was pretty good. Still scratching my head on why they don't go to windows 9 instead of 10...

For people saying Windows 8 was bad. Basically you probably didn't give it one bit of a chance.

For some who didn't like it, yes not everyone likes everything even some have valid reasons.

But I love Windows 8/8.1
I love the fact that I can easily access apps. I don't see a wrong thing about it. Yes desktop isn't the first thing you see, but not that hard to get to it. So...anyway. Yea

Can't wait for Windows 10, just to stop hearing people complain.

It looks really good, but I've literally only just started using Windows 8. :/

Does look cool. Never used Windows 8 properly. Although this does look quite impressive.

Pryzel W10 is incredible OS in my opinion, happy that they went back to the W7 style.

They didn't "go back" to it, they created an OS around Windows 7 that would still be appealing to everyone who liked Windows 8 which I don't know how people would.

Windows 8 wasn't that bad with a few installed tweaks like StartMenu8. But windows 10 will hopefully push people to upgrade seeing as it's a free upgrade even for pirates.

The fact that people had to install 3rd Party software to make an OS usable is annoying.

Same as androids lol. Mac/iOS for the win.

If you think OSX and IOS don't need to be changed you're not thinking how bad they are.

Are either particularly bad? I guess they could be improved but both are pretty decent operating systems

I haven't tried Windows 8 and probably never will. However Windows 10 looks promising.

Miss I like how they're offering everyone in China W10 for free regardless if they have a pirated version of Windows or not.

No no no no no. Not just everyone in China, everyone in the world who has a pirated Windows 7 or 8. It was announced in China but it's not solely for the Chinese.
