Windows Hello: Microsoft is making the password obsolete in Windows 10

4.7
One of the major features in Windows 10 is the way Microsoft addresses security, user accounts and sign-on options, and though the company has touched on this topic before, it’s only now giving us a more comprehensive look in the form of Windows Hello.

Windows Hello is an authentication system that uses a variety of biometric signatures and combines hardware and software to allow for seamless and secure user recognition and sign-in. According to Microsoft, the ideal scenario here would be for you to simply look or touch a new device running Windows 10 and to be immediately signed up.

Windows Hello relies on common hardware, but takes everything to the next level: fingerprint scanners, cameras with infrared sensors and so on. The software analyzes input from such hardware to confirm your identity and then signs you in, without requiring you to remember a password.

Pity I'm glad they are focusing on making everything private. Not sure if I still trust them with any private information.

It's not "private" it's most likely going to be stored on your PC/In the cloud. Which means it's hackable.

VPN I'm just going to think that this will only work with new Windows 10 laptops with a built in webcam. I can hardly believe that a third party webcam and a free upgraded tier of Windows 10, would do the trick.

Just wait until they harvest your data and "secure" it.

My desktop has no fingerprint reader, no camera, no "eye-scanner." Many laptops don't have but one of those (the camera). Even still, who the hell really wants MS or any other company having access to their biometric data?

Have we not learned from the mess that's created by these companies in how they can secure our personal data, as it is? No thanks. I'll take a password over this, any day.

UnrealApp Seems like too much to add but i suppose this is the new generation of security

It is never too much if you want your data safe.

The title is EXTREMELY MISLEADING.

There still IS A PASSWORD. Windows Hello is a software built into the OS.

It needs a touch screen, or a fingerprint scanner.

THE PASSWORD IS STILL A THING FOLKS.
