Petition to remaster CoD: Modern Warfare 2 for next-gen hits goal

4.6
The online petition to get Activision to remaster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Xbox One and PS4 has just hit its goal of 150,000 signatures.

The petition, which is addressed to Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg and Infinity Ward CEO Jason West, states that "Modern Warfare 2 was one of Activision's best game. Just a fun & enjoyable game that really gives you that nostalgia feeling. The guns, maps, kill streaks were just incredible."

It goes on, however, that "At the moment mw2 for the ps3 & xbox is just overrun by hackers. If they remaster the game, & sort a couple things out (e.g noob tubing) it would make a lot of people happy. [sic]"

Unfortunately, it probably won't happen -- even with the petition hitting its goal. We reached out to Activision for comment on the petition and so far we've heard nothing that gives us any sort of inkling that the publisher would remaster one of their past games. And why would they? With a new Call of Duty releasing every year, why would Activision risk cannibalizing its sales? There's already complaints of gamer fatigue when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise; I can't imagine releasing two in one year would help with that, despite how amazing Modern Warfare 2 was.

At the very least, maybe the petition will elicit some sort of response from Activision, but I wouldn't count on it. A representative didn't sound too optimistic.

Update: After hitting its goal of 150,000 the petition has been changed to a goal of 200,000.

I would love for them to remake this but, the chances of it happening are so slim..

I loved MW2 but as good as it is, it was only as popular and successful as it was because it was the most advanced CoD game ever made at the time.
Think about the graphics, all the killstreaks, weapons etc. of MW2 and then think about how much of a massive leap it all was from the CoD game before it, (WaW and CoD4)

It would be good to have a remake but it wouldn't be as successful as you'd think, when you hear a funny joke it's entertaining the first time. The second time? Not so much.

If Activision and Infinity Ward decide to follow up on this petition and start to produce a remake to be released in a maybe a couple of years time, the community is going to boom for many reasons:
1: Modern Warfare 2 was the biggest game they made, still played by many people to this day.
2: A remake will be released on Next Gen, giving new console owners the chance to play the remake
And finally:
3: Cause this game is so bloody awesome would put a smile on many peoples faces, if they kept the engine and port, upgraded the graphics, got rid of noob-tubers and hackers, the community will change once again and be back to the way it was, they way everyone liked it.

A remaster of MW2 can be a big hit if Activision can fix some of the game's most popular issues:

1. Hacked lobbies: This was the biggest game breaking issue for MW2. I remember spending hours with my cousin trying to get into one of these lobbies and when we did, we got to 9th prestige because it had the best looking emblems and were also left with some cool see-through-walls mod. Good times, but it ruined the magic of the game for us - we had everything. All the camos, all the emblems, and we decided to make new accounts to rank up to 10th prestige again. It was worth it.

2. OMA/Noobtube nerf: This might be a bit controversial because I loved to run around noobtubing as I'm sure many MW2 players did but nerfing this would only make the game more balanced. I know balance is a joke in MW2 when it comes to weapons and killstreaks but nerfing noobtubes will make the game more fair for the majority of CoD players, especially the newer ones who didn't get a chance to experience MW2 in it's prime.

3. Competitive playlist: I've been a competitive CoD player since MW2 and I love it. BO2 had the best version with league play and I'm sure Activision can integrate a competitive playlist for MW2, preferably with a seperate ranking system. If they can enable party chat in SnD just for this playlist and balanced matchmaking then this can be a great playlist.

4. Make all DLC free: It would be stupid for Activision to charge us for a 6 year old game's DLC. Since the game might not sell well since its a remaster it would make sense for them to charge you for each DLC but if they absolutely have to then at least charge half the price.

5. Bring in new playlists: Infected, or maybe even give Michael Myers its own playlist, maybe add in a sniping only playlist.

6. Market the hell out of this remaster.

For now, with only 160,000 signatures we are only scratching the surface. Our goal is 200k right now but by next year we'll hopefully have north of a million. We need to convince Activision.

With all the speculation of a remastered edition of modern warfare 2 on the Xbox one & playstation 4 in my opinion if infinity ward and activision actually came to the conclusion of remaking past games such as this would it not be a smarter idea in every way including financially to instead of remastering modern warfare 2 to completely remaster modern warfare 1,2 and 3 into one such as the halo master chief collection did. They could even name it something like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Captain Price Collection or Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare The Mactavish (Or soap) Collection

Playing the old CoDs on the next gen consoles would be pretty dope.

I'm not a next gen user but I could see this as a good idea.
Hope Activision and Infinity ward look into it
