GTA 5 made $31 million in digital revenue in January

GTA 5 is the highest-grossing title at the moment in terms of digital revenue, and the PSN is absolutely minting it.

Digital games industry analyst Superdata has extended its scope to include console games, which means we suddenly have access to a whole bunch of data we’ve only been able to guess at, or extrapolate from comments made in publisher financial briefings.

For example: GTA 5 made $31.8 million in worldwide digital revenue in January 2015. That figure includes digital copies of the game sold via the PSN and Xbox Live, but also DLC and microtransaction content.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was the next most lucrative with $23.5 million.

Destiny was next with $14.2 million – the steep drop off between second and third is indicative of the comparative dearth of extra content available to Destiny players as compared to GTA 5 and Advanced Warfare, I assume. In fact, Dying Light was very close behind Destiny, with $12 million in sales.

Here’s the full top ten. It’s worth noting that this list shows global revenue but was selected based on the top ten in the US, which is why it doesn’t include FIFA 15 and its $28.3 million in digital revenue during January (a whopping 93% of which was microtransactions).

Superdata found that 63% of all revenue generated by the top ten console games listed above was generated on PlayStation platforms. 43% came from the PS4 alone. New-gen consoles together generated 70% more than their precursors.

Half of the revenue these ten games generated originated in the US, with 81% of Dying Light’s digital sales coming form the US, for example. Superdata said the console market has yet to take off in China; the firm’s PC digital revenues report frequently comments on that market’s importance, so we may see a change soon.

Erza Lol at cod all the way down there

Down there? I saw 3 of them on that list, and one of them came out in 2012...The cod devs are laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm not surprised. It's GTA. Everyone wants it.

Seriously thats a crazy amount of money and yet they still can't do a clean release on time for pc.

The XBL/PSN market is so big now. So many people would rather just predownload the game so they don't have to go out and get it.
