Call of Duty Now An $11Billion Franchise, Destiny hits 16Million Users

4.7
Enjoying a successful 2014, video game publisher Activision shared some of its franchises more notable accomplishments during the company’s recent earnings call earlier today.

Call of Duty continues to grow which, as reported by Activision, is now an $11 billion franchise, exceeding that amount in retail sales since 2003. Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare also went on to earn the number one spot as best-selling console release of 2014, making it the number one franchise in North America for the sixth year in a row.

Meanwhile, Bungie’s new IP, Destiny, remains the most successful launch of a new video game franchise in history, becoming the number three top-selling console release in North America and Europe combined in 2014. In addition, Activision shared that the title has earned more than 16 million registered users to date whose most active users play the game an average of three hours per day.

Hei

DeluxeHazard both games deserve those numbers. COD made a fresh new start and Destiny was a great new release for gamers.

I don't believe Destiny should have that amount of players, bad game in my opinion.

Destiny should have been labeled an arcade game.

Half-assed Campaign? Check.
Repetitive as hell? Check.
Forgot about it a month after it was released? Check.

Its unbelievable that people even stand up for it being a great game. Honestly I would rather buy CoD than destiny any day.

Someone that agrees, thank you!

Although call of duties sells have been going up the past couple of years I feel that there games are just going down in quality, I'm still proud of the franchise.

What? I can't get any of my friends to play Destiny, and everyone I know who tried it disliked it or gave up on it after the first month, and yet this thing is still growing like crazy? Who in the world is buying this game? And how come the far superior Borderlands didn't achieve these numbers?

Further proof you don't need to make a good game. You just need to know how to sell it.

Doesn't surprise me one bit AW was the best selling console release of 2014.

Also $11 billion is a huge amount of money!
