Xbox Live founder leaves Microsoft

4.7
Xbox Live Founder Boyd Multerer announced his departure from Microsoft this week after 17 years with the company. Multerer revealed the career change via his Twitter account, saying "Goodbye Microsoft. It was a good run. Xbox was Great! Time to do something new." Multerer's bio on the social media site indicates that the "something new" he's up to is on his own terms, as he is "currently doing independent secret stuff."

Multerer not only led the design and direction of Microsoft's Xbox Live service starting in 2000, but also served as project manager and led the creation of XNA, the company's toolset that facilitates independent game development for its platforms. The longtime Microsoft designer's last position with the company was as director of development since 2011, designing the operating software of its latest home console, Xbox One.

Temari I'm not feeling to sure about this....
I feel that the Xbox is headed towards a downfall.
Maybe the founder predicted it?...

Or he's just retiring..

Honestly, I feel like this is the end of Xbox. The Xbox One just can't compare to the 360, and the fanbase is really dieing off, sad to see it go.. :/

I highly doubt that. If anything it's going up considering all the sales during the holidays.

I would really like to see the secret stuff he is going to be working on.

Maybe some sort of new console ? That would be cool.

Wow, this is pretty big. But I understand why. He's been there a long time, and with the Xbox One now released I don't blame him. It'll be awhile before another console and as he said, it's time for something new.

It is starting to get my attention that most of the makers or original people are leaving and passing it on. Hope all goes well for this guy

This guy probably just wants to change things up and keep busy. After all, based on his position at Microsoft he could quite easily retire.
