Sony warns of potential PS4 shortages in Europe

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House has warned of potential PS4 shortages in Europe this Christmas.

"If I look at Europe I think it is potentially, for the second year running, going to be quite inventory challenged," the executive told Reuters.

"I'm not going to say you won't be able to find a PlayStation 4," he added. "I think it's going to be kind of hand to mouth in terms of that market."

PS4 launched in the west in November 2013 before releasing in Japan this February. PS4 sales to retailers stood at 13.5 million units by the end of September. Ten million of those had been sold through to consumers by August 12, Sony claims, making the system one of the fastest-selling consoles in history.

Positioning PS4 as a gamer-centric device has played a major role in the console becoming the frontrunner in the current-gen sales race, but attracting more casual adopters may be key to Sony retaining its market lead over the coming years, according to PlayStation UK managing director Fergal Gara.

I don't understand why there will be a shortage of PS4's.
Good, now more people can come to Xbox!

I doubt there will be much of a problem, hopefully people will get there senses together and buy Xbox Ones lol

Miss Lies. All a marketing technique to try to get people to buy them before they "run out". Every place I've been to has PS4's in stock, every time. I have, however, been to places where the Xbox One is sold out.

I feel the exact same way, every GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, and even Target is having trouble keeping the X1 in stock. Yet there are quite a few PS4 on the shelves.

But know what the article is stating, this is in Europe, not the US.

I do agree this could just be a tactic to get people to buy the PS4.
