Halo: The Master Chief Collection getting Halo 3: ODST for free

4.8
343 Industries announced that they will be adding Halo 3: ODST to Halo: The Master Chief Collection for free to anyone who has played the game between the launch date and today.

As a part of this, they are giving away Relic, the Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map for free. Halo 3: ODST will be upgraded to 1080p resolution and will run at 60fps.

Take a look at what all 343 is offering for free below.

"This has been a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can – and need – to do better for Xbox fans around the world. We are so grateful to our fans who have stood by our side and we appreciate all of your patience as we worked through these issues. As a token of our appreciation and to thank fans for the continued support and understanding, we will be offering the following items, for free, to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection online since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14)."

The following items will be free:
  • 1 Month of Xbox Live Gold
  • Exclusive In-Game Nameplate
  • Exclusive In-Game Avatar
  • Halo 3: ODST Campaign – Development has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original “Halo 3: ODST” campaign.
  • “Relic” Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map – Available via a free content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will reimagine the fan-favorite map “Relic,” fully remastered and running at 1080p resolution and 60fps. We chose this map based on its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes. And you can trust that Certain Affinity will tune and tweak the map to make it even better than you remember.

Head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross said they will be giving these items away due to the rocky launch that everyone has had to endure.

"The satisfaction and joy of our fans is absolutely critical to everyone at 343 Industries and we regret the issues and the frustration you have endured. We are truly sorry and thank you for your continued patience and support of the Halo franchise."

skatertg Erm... ODST is as boring and shit as Reach. What a scam, bring back Bungie i hate 343 so much for ruining Halo.

I seriously agree with you, it seems that most halo fans that support 343 only came late in the series, tend to be around halo 4 or maybe reach, (the worst)

Yeah 343 really **** up the Halo series by making Halo 4 and Halo 5 appeal to the casual gamers. I really do like the fact that they are giving Halo 3 ODST for free as ODST was an awesome game and firefight was way better in ODST than in Reach. Other than that 343 just completey destroyed Halo by adding these "new features" that just make Halo seem like COD Advanced Warfare DLC or Expansion Pack. I am interested to play Halo 5 and see if 343 can redeem themselves but from the look of the gameplay trailers it doesn't look very good for 343 and Halo

JRMH They're doing this literally to prevent getting sued. Nothing more, nothing less. I doubt the MP is getting fixed at all, even though thats what everyone wants, lol.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing its pathetic

I just got a refund for this game, but this doesn't even make me want it again. 343 are doing a horrible job. Sorry to say it.

I loved the ODST campaign, was a nice change and darker take on the series than previous titles. Will be fun to play, and seeing as I've been too busy as of late to be affected really by the MCC downfalls, it's kind of like a bonus to me. Still hope they get everything fixed though, releasing broken games has been the standard of 2014 Video Games.

Miss Play online as in multi-player? Or just play the game in general connected to XBL?

I pretty sure it's playing the game connected to xbl in general.

I hope to god that thats true. I wish they said a release date for said gifts.

You just had to be online when playing the MCC, it's not required to of played a multiplayer game. (Most couldn't of played multiplayer even if they wanted to)

I found when I went back to ODST it was very different and interesting compared to all the other Halo's. And just because you don't like, doesn't make it a scam. They basically gave you a free DLC for no reason when they didn't have to. Quit complaining ya troll

I wouldn't say for no reason, they sold us a broken game.
