Just Cause 3 won't have multiplayer at launch

4.7
Just Cause 3 will only launch with a single-player mode, according to senior members of the game's development staff.

Game director Roland Lesterlin and Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg told Game Informer that Just Cause 3 will feature no multiplayer options at launch.

"Maybe sometime down the line, we'll take Rico into the modern world of multiplaying," Sundberg explained.

"We don't expect the fans to make the multiplayer for Just Cause 3, but at some point you have to make a choice on where your focus is. Our strength is the sandbox experience, and we want to deliver a great Just Cause 3 experience."

The mention of the fans 'making the multiplayer' is a reference to Just Cause 2, which also launched with no multiplayer options until a group of fans spent two years working on an online multiplayer mod for the game, which was released on Steam in late December 2013.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lesterlin stated that while Just Cause 3's game map may not necessarily be bigger than that of the already enormous Just Cause 2, it will have more content packed into it.

"Just Cause 2 was already enormous," he explained. "We really want to focus now on density and the feel of the world itself.

"So we didn't necessarily just have to do increased land mass, but we have certainly gone a lot bigger when it comes to density of the world and now it's not just on top of the world, we also have caves and tunnels and all sorts of stuff there too."

Last week Avalanche Studios officially announced Just Cause 3 for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2015.

I think this game will be fine without multiplayer because single player will be packed with activities and challenges. It would also be great not to include multiplayer because I wouldn't have to hear 8 year olds in the late stage of puberty bitching about how they have more pubes in their balls then I do. Plus when the servers go down for the Xbox One(which won't go down for the next 5-6 years)the game will still be playable so I don't have to worry about extra content like multiplayer being unaccessible (execpt of course DLC that I didn't purchase will be gone by then) so the game is going to have massive replayability.

This game doesn't need multiplayer, its perfect just by itself.

They should have realized what a desired addition multiplayer mode was to JC2 and built it into JC3 from the ground up. It's disappointing that they're ignoring the multiplayer aspect, but doesn't bother me too much. I primarily play for the single player campaign.

I don't really mind it not having MP at launch as I will be mainly focusing on the single player.

lordgeorge Not a great decision. I think multiplayer on Just Cause would have been interesting!

There will most likely eventually be a multi player.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's another mod to play multiplayer.
