Report: Call of Duty sales decline likely to continue

Analysts at Cowen And Company have examined Amazon's pre-order tallies for the upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and have concluded that the game will probably continue the series' trend of declining returns.

"Advanced Warfare is now pacing almost 40 percent behind last year's Ghosts and almost 70 percent behind 2012's Black Ops 2," the analysts note. "We continue to believe CoD will be down meaningfully vs. last year. With the franchise facing two consecutive significant year on year declines in sales, we think it is prudent to assume it has peaked."

Cowen And Company preemptively argues against the idea that pre-orders are no longer a determinant of total sales by pointing out that 2014 has seen the record for most-preordered game broken twice, first by Watch Dogs then by Destiny. Clearly people are pre-ordering games, the analysts believe, but it appears that the Call of Duty series - which normally accounts for "a significant percentage of overall preorders" - is no longer attracting pre-order cash at the same rate it did even as recently as three years ago.

The game will be fine, it's all the haters on cod saying it's going to be horrible, which is why people are holding off on pre orders,.

It's just too early to say.

Evo8 Still just waiting for Black Ops 3, will revive the series.

idk, this game looks PRETTY good. Black Ops is currently the superior video game out, no competition whatsoever, but hopefully AW can change that.

more and more people pre-ordering digitally (I am one of those) since PS4 came out I have pre-ordered all the games digitally and I get them as soon as 12am hits which is good however I can't resell it which is bad but I am not complaining

Whoever It's probably decreased in sales because Amazon suck A** to pre-order games from, I pre-ordered Ghost from them when that came out and it didnt get to me until 7 at night and my friends had been playing it all day! Don't get me wrong I'd buy anything else from them but sometimes they can take the P***! Like when you pay for next day delivery on a monitor and It comes at 9 in the evening (Also happened to me)

Sounds like you got what you ordered on the day it was supposed to be delivered. If you're gonna piss and moan about it not arriving the second you wake up then you might as well just delete the Internet, stop being a lazy slug and go and buy whatever you want from a shop.

i mean, cmon, how did they not expect this? sledgehammer is the studio that co-created modern warfare 3, the biggest failure of a game ever, so i could see why, unless call of duty studio step up their game and actually give what the fans demand then i dont think this series will kick off again, treyarch seems to be the only studio trying anymore.
