Halo: Spartan Strike announced for PC, Surface, Windows Phone

4.6
343 Industries will return to twin-stick shooting with Halo: Spartan Strike, the successor to Halo: Spartan Assault.

The new game starts out concurrent with the events of Halo 2 in New Mombasa and then jumps forward five years to the war against the Prometheans, 343 told IGN. Players can take the wheel of familiar vehicles like the Warthog to get around levels and gun down their enemies with an expanded range of weaponry.

Spartan Strike will feature "refined controls" with improved virtual joysticks, more precise aiming and grenade tosses and a 25-week schedule of revolving challenges. Players can even unlock unspecified rewards for use in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The game will start out on PC, Surface tablet and Windows Phone on December 12; players can unlock all versions with a single $5.99 purchase in the Windows Store or buy a standalone PC version on Steam.

Halo: Spartan Assault released first on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in July 2013, though it made its way to Xbox 360 and Xbox One in December. 343 Industries did not announce similar plans for Spartan Strike.
