Halo: Combat Evolved to get custom playlists and weapon sets

4.7
Nobody could deny that the first-person shooter has come along tremendously since gestation - but sometimes, I hanker for the austere simplicity only an ageing classic can provide, before the feature creep set in. So I'm pleased as punch to hear that the Xbox One remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved will support no-radar playlists in multiplayer. Ah, the timeless thrill of not having the faintest idea where all your enemies are.

"As is the case with all games within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will have a variety of experiences in Matchmaking that cater to a variety of playstyles," reads a little Q&A, posted to Halo Waypoint. "For example, you'll be able to find Halo: CE games with radar enabled and disabled (in separate playlists)."

There's a choice of arsenals, too, reflecting the inclusion of content from the PC version of the game. "You'll be able to select your weapon set in Halo: CE from a brand new list of weapon sets, including "classic," which will not include the Flamethrower or Fuel Rod Gun."

343's Frank O'Connor has been discussing all this on NeoGAF. He observes that the four games included with the Master Chief Collection have been "lovingly updated, not rehashed", and represent the labour of "dozens of people working very late for months and months".

There are also a couple of new screens of Combat Evolved in Classic Mode - that's to say, without the benefit of all those luscious Anniversary textures. Looks... like Combat Evolved. But crisper.

Kixa No radar is a good addition it gets pretty annoying after a while when someone kills you from behind or just knows where you are all the time.

Yeah I can understand that I'm sure they only added that to make it Noob friendly

This is great. Especially radar disabled playlist.

No radars will be the best thing this game has to offer.

It needs to be November already for next-gen GTA V and the MC collection

I really think this collection is going to be the best release yet on the Xbox one! I can't wait to experience Halo 2 and 3 again in 1080p at 60fps. Should be great really happy they are doing this!
