CoD: Advanced Warfare Likely To Sell Less Than Ghosts, Says Analyst

4.4
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is expected to sell three million copies less than Call of Duty: Ghosts, according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia.

As Cinema Blend reports, the analyst projects that Sledgehammer Games’ debut Call of Duty project, due out this November 4, will sell 17 million copies in quarter four of 2014, which is down 15% from Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty title that sold 20 million in quarter four of last year.

With $1 billion sold into retailers at launch, Call of Duty: Ghosts still didn’t quite manage to top sales generated by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in prior years. Publisher Activision chalked up Ghosts’ dip in performance to stiffer competition and the awkward transition to next-gen consoles.

Fans of the franchise weren’t all too enthusiastic about the direction Ghosts took the series in either.

Bhatia says that while continuing consumer indecision about upgrading to next-gen hardware may still factor into sales, Advanced Warfare does have the chance to out-perform its predecessor thanks to a lack of competition this year. With Battlefield Hardline moved to a Spring 2015 release, Advanced Warfare’s only possible concern is the Xbox One-exclusive Halo: The Master Chief Collection, launching one week later on November 11.

Our first impressions of Advanced Warfare were very positive, but it sounds like it’s going to take some solid reviews and good word-of-mouth to give Advanced Warfare the boost it needs this Fall.

What’s your outlook on Call of Duty this year? Are you more excited for Advanced Warfare than you were for Ghosts? Or, are you reserving judgement until after launch?

While I am not surprised about the estimate I don't agree it will sell less. New dev team, Re-defined MP and completely new "loot" system. It has to sell more then Ghosts not a whole lot more but I think this will be like Black Ops 1's release all over again, COD Multiplayer has been dramatically improved/changed.

CHP not surprised, im not getting it as much as i like cod, the last couple of games havent really progressed enough for me

im not even bothering getting AW which is a first in cod for me

Im a Lil more hyped for this than i was ghosts, as AW has more of a treyarch look to it rather than a infinity ward look. But i will know my opinion of advanced warfare when i play it in 2 days time from now. God i cant wait to play it! SO HYPED!

They need to admit the fact that, treyarch are the superior Game developers for call of duty, when Ghost came out, i sore more than 200k+ people online on Black ops 2, and when i played ghost there where less than 150k, which seems to me that people arn't likeing the fact that advanced warfare Looks like Titan fall, & now with destiny been released has stolen the call of duty spotlight because of how well the game is made.

ihave3arms Honestly none of you should be complaining about any video games no matter how bad you think they are you still would never have the capability to make a game .000001% of the quality of them.

This has to be the worst response ive ever read. Im pretty sure with a team of people who have spent their whole life playing and developing games id be apart of a game that was 10x better than Cod

DeluxeHazard Ghosts was a dropping point in the COD franchise. So many people stopped playing COD because of Ghosts.

very true and this is sad because this game looks good

When they first showed AW i thought this looks bad and now im starting to think this actually looks good from watching gameplay and stuff so hopefully even if it does sell less hopefully the game will be good.

Uh, over the course of a year, with the proper college degree, it's more than possible. ESPECIALLY as a profession. The people that make COD make it so it will appeal to as much of the people that buy it as possible. It doesn't have to be good it just has to appeal. Sadly.

Make a game like COD by yourself? No, it would be possible however it will take YEARS. TO me, people are just extremely spoiled / confused when it comes to Call of Duty. One minute people want a game that is like COD 4 (older games) but then say they want a game with new features. Once COD implement new features, people claim that it is copying another franchise. Overall, this game will be good and fun. Fun as in COD 4 fun? Most likely not but you never know.
