PSN down after suffering DDOS attack

Sony isn't expected to begin maintenance on the PlayStation Network until tomorrow, but PlayStation users were surprised to wake up and find that the online service is already down.

Upon trying to login to PSN, users are greeted with error code "NW-31456-9," which reads "Cannot connect to the server within the time limit."

I got the error code: "NW-31201-7," which simply reads "Cannot connect to the server."

Apparently, it is the result of a DDOS attack by a hacking group known as Lizard Squad. The group admitted to the attack, but didn't really give a reason other than the usual "Sony is a greedy corporation" excuse.

The official Sony PlayStation hasn't confirmed if this is the case, but Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley acknowledged the "large scale DDOS," adding that "it's almost under control now."

That is very true! I actually remember when all that was going on the first time around for Sony!

True, who knows if it might happen again in the future really bad like with the ps3

Latias People act as if Xbox Live is some unbreakable super system. There have been much more secure systems hit by DDOS, if someone wanted XBL down bad enough nothing would stop them.

Xbox lve is not some server sent from the heavens.

That said ps4 hardware is superior and xbox live has been down several times lately for a few hours at a time i have xb1 and ps4 so i know at least it takes a hack to bring sony down its not randomly down every other time you sign on. I have fun on both console just stating facts here....
