Xbox 360 500GB hard drive incoming

Microsoft's US arm is currently taking pre-orders for a new Xbox 360 500GB hard drive.

Priced at $109.99 and listed as coming soon, the official accessory offers additional storage space on the console for games, movies and other content.

The existing 320GB hard drive accessory is currently listed for $129.99/£79.99, although a price cut would appear likely once the new one is released.

We've asked Microsoft if it plans to release the new hard drive outside of the US.

Standard Xbox 360 consoles now come with 4GB and 250GB hard drives, although some special editions offer more storage space.

Despite Microsoft having switched much of its focus to Xbox One, Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi said in September 2013 that the company would continue to support Xbox 360 for years to come.

"If you look at Xbox 360 that platform has lasted for seven to eight years and it's going to go for another three years," he said.

"We are going to continue to invest in Xbox 360 and the two devices can work in concert. In fact, we are going to ship over 100 new games on Xbox 360, so you will still be able to play your games, just not on the same exact box."

A number of Xbox exclusive cross-gen games were announced at Gamescom in mid-August, including Rise of the Tomb Raider and Frontier Developments' ScreamRide.

really? My 250Gb only lasted 2 months. Some people buy games

It's fine if you just use discs and don't download movies.

JRMH For all the ignorant people out there, which, apparently, there's a LOT;
Microsoft is going to try to preserve the Xbox 360 and since the games are going to be hand and hand with next-gen games, or as close as possible, you're going to eventually have to download something for EVERY game. Like how you have to do ALREADY with GTA 5, BF4, and even Cod Ghosts. So yes, this is helpful. I do agree with some of you that they could've released this awhile ago. It's not that serious though... Lol...

No one here is being ignorant, they won't "preserve" the 360 forever and do you have any idea how fast 500GB can fill up, there's no point in making a simple hard drive for the 360 this late and you can make your own hard drives because all the eSATAs anyways just in a special case?

Takes the p*ss if im honest, just another example of why microsoft will never favour the consumer they could have released this YEARS ago but instead they pull our pants down and bend us over a barrell... one last time, before they do it all over again with a new console
