Apple orders 80 million iPhone 6 handsets for the fall

4.6
People are always excited for the new iPhone that launches ever year, and it looks like Apple has great confidence in its 2014 offerings. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has ordered 80 million units off the production line, to be ready for the expected fall launch.

Rumours regarding the iPhone 6 models have been going around for almost a whole year now. If they’re to be believed Apple will soon be unveiling two new models, much like last year, both having big high-resolution sapphire displays. The two models are rumoured to feature 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens respectively.

Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is so confident in its new models that they’re ordering a record-setting 80 million smartphones from their manufacturers. This number far exceeds last year’s 50-60 million devices, that later resulted in shortages around the world.

What's not clear just yet is how those numbers break down by model. According to an earlier report production of the 4.7-inch model was set to begin this month, while the 5.5-inch model was rumored to be facing notable delays. If this is true we may see the bulk of this 80 million order being comprised of the smaller model, which is also expected to sell in larger numbers.

However, considering Apple’s recent bid for the Chinese market, and their partnership with China Mobile, this massive order may be just barely enough to satisfy demand.

Apple’s previous record sales took place in Q4 of 2013 with 51 million devices sold. It looks like the company is confident they’ll set a whole new record by the end of this year.

Pinned Dang. I hope I can pick up the 5.5inch when my contract is up in January. iPhone 4 doesn't cut it anymore :/

Especially with all those Galaxy phones out there with those huge screens, I personally like the iPhone 5's 4.7" screen, it's perfect, not too small from the iPhone 4 but it's not so big that it won't fit in your pocket.

You may as well carry around on iPad if you're going to get huge sized screen phones.

I think Apple needs to add bigger and better features to their devices. Them features they are adding are just not big enough advances in technology to compete with rival companies, like Google with their Google glass. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple, most of the things I own are Apple products, but if they don't start adding better features to their things, they are going to lose to other companies.

The thinner it gets the easier it will break. So they are making more money by doing that. Smart.
