Microsoft UK: Xbox One sales have "really improved"

4.7
Sony's PlayStation 4 has been outselling the Xbox One by some margin since the two consoles launched at the end of last year. But Microsoft is working to reverse that trend, despite estimates suggesting that around two million more PS4s have been sold compared with Xbox Ones. Clearly, there is much work for Microsoft to do to narrow that gap.

But it seems that Microsoft may finally be seeing its efforts beginning to pay off. During a talk attended by TrustedReviews, Xbox UK Marketing Director Harvey Eagle said: "Our momentum has really improved in the past weeks and months and we're obviously really happy about that. And by momentum, I mean sales."

At least part of that may be attributable to Microsoft's decision to begin selling a version of the Xbox One without the costly Kinect, which has reduced the console's price to far more attractive levels.

Given that it's only been a few weeks since the Kinect-free version went on sale, it's unlikely that this has completely narrowed the sales gap between the Xbox One and PS4, but any increase in momentum will be a welcome relief to Microsoft. The exact increase in sales remains unclear, since Eagle did not disclose 'before and after' sales figures to compare.

Microsoft says that it hasn't given up on Kinect and still believes that it offers a premium experience for Xbox One users.

CMR It helps when the prices are low - people aren't as loyal to companies as they think. Most buy whatever is cheaper. Quite a few people on my friends list switched to PS4 simply because it's cheaper. I wouldn't pay over 250 GBP for either 'next gen console' when they don't offer a huge improvement over the 360/PS3.

The fact you don't have to deal with typical hackers is good enough for me. COD Ghosts is playable on Xbox one. I switched to 360 and EVERYONE was max level... (this was like 4-5 months ago) But it's not worth the money I paid. But I mean, you KNOW for a fact they're gonna improve the next gen consoles.

Cod ghosts is terrible anyway.

I agree with you I don't really like ghosts but hopefully the advanced warfare one will be better

seen as most of the games that come out for the xbox are better and I have been told off of people who have got the ps4 that they don't like it very much and they wished they had got an xbox one.

also the live to get online is cheaper. the console is cheaper

this is mainly why I am going to get an xbox one......I waited at first to see what everyone was getting or got and which one was better......also going to buy it in a bundle along with fifa 14 and forza horizon 2 when they come out

Whey New games to be released and the console was reduced in price, hardly surprising that sales have gone up. However, good news for Microsoft.

And for the users! A little less money to own the console and new up and coming games to boot!

The reason the Xbox One sold less than the PS4 in the beginning is because people were forced to pay an extra $100 for the Kinect and it was a real turn off to customers that all Xbox Ones would have an "always online" feature.

Also on my previous comment, it is supposed to say 4K and 2d. But auto correct just wasn't having it, along with *know.

-SAFC- Competition is a great thing for consumers.

Not all the time. Because some companies get into the competition too much and end up ruining alot of stuff.

Nope, always good. If there was only one console, they could charge whatever their heart desired and the policies would be even more horrendous.

NBC I have a feeling that the Xbox will be the King of the Consoles by the end of these console life cycle's. One word... 4K

Neither console is hitting 4 this gen, except on some basic 2 side scrollers. Don't belive what a PR rep says, you should now that by now.
