DualShock 4 now wirelessly compatible with PS3

4.5
The PS4's DualShock 4 controller can now be used wirelessly with the PS3.

It was previously possible to connect the new controller to the PS3 with the included USB cable, but it appears that Sony sneakily added more preferable wireless support in the recent 4.60 PS3 firmware update.

However, the PS3 will still only recognize the DS4 as a generic controller device, so only basic functionality is enabled, while rumble force and motion control remain unusable. Game support is also patchy, according to Engadget.

To connect a DS4 wirelessly to PS3, users must:

- Go to 'Accessory Settings' on the PS3 system menu
- Select 'Manage Bluetooth Devices'
- 'Register New Device' to begin scanning for a new device
- Press and hold both the Share Button and PS button on the DS4 until the light starts blinking
- The controller will be detected by the PS3 as a 'Wireless controller'
- Select it to complete registration
Sony recently released PS4 update 1.72, which is said to improve system software stability during the use of some features.

Sony has reassured PS4 owners that previously announced and still undelivered PS4 system features - including a suspend and resume feature that is expected to radically reduce the system boot-to-gameplay load times by keeping the console in a low power state and preserving exact game sessions - are still in development.

Kixa This is really cool another reason why sony is better.

im pretty sure the suspend and resume feature was meant to be there from day one, so how does a silly lil control patch make them better than everyone else

It's really cool that they did this. It would be great if they did this for the Xbox One. I still like going on my Xbox 360 to play some games, but I'm so used to the Xbox One controller now that I'd prefer to be able to use that.

Hopefully they'll do this with the Xbox One...

I think I'm going to like this because the ps3 has all the games and the ps4 controllers is the best.

I wonder if the mic that came with PS4 will be compatible to use to talk to friends on PS3 because when I tied before the update i couldn't talk through it.

Neither is better. They are literally almost exact in specs and what not, so it is JUST personal preference!

Pretty good! Sony is getting really good! Wish I had a PS4 though!

Loa Hm, if only Xbox One could do this -_-.

That would be amazing! I love the One's controller.

This is pretty cool though. If I still had a PS3 I'd probably buy a controller now before I get a PS4. Than I'd have two.
