Xbox 360 and Wii owners have migrated to PS4, Sony says

3.7
Research shows that a significant number of Xbox 360 and Wii owners have migrated to PS4 during the early stages of the latest console cycle, according to Sony.

In a newly published PlayStation interview, Worldwide Studios senior VP of product development Scott Rohde cited data from industry tracking firm Nielsen to back up the company's claim.

"Everyone in this industry always tracks that kind of stuff," he told CVG. "It's always fascinating to look at all this data. So, two of the things I can talk about - because they're true. 17 per cent of PS4 owners did not own a last-gen console. That in itself is a pretty shocking number.

"31 per cent of PS4 owners did not own a PS3, but they did own either an Xbox 360 or Wii," Rohde continued. "Now, those are some pretty amazing numbers. And that's why, again, I think we're doing things like bringing The Last of Us to PS4, because there's a huge percentage of those people who never got to play it and that's a shame."

Sony recently said that PS4 sales stood at seven million units as of April 6, while Microsoft said in late April that Xbox One shipments totalled five million units. Both platforms launched in November 2013, one year after Wii U. As of March 31, lifetime Wii U sales totalled 6.17 million units.

martiantiger I have been a loyal Xbox/Microsoft person for over 10 years. During this time I have grown very disappointed in Microsoft. The last straw was a comment made at E3, when a Microsoft rep was asked about the the newer lower priced "one" and what about the people who bought the full bundle.
The response left a sour taste IMO.
I have closely followed E3. And IMO, I was NOT impressed with the new titles for the ONE system.
I was equally not impressed with the PS4 titles either.
But, I am however extremely impressed by the PS4. It is a strong system.
I have had the chance to play both systems. IMO the PS4 out preforms the ONE in almost every aspect. I am going to buy a PS4, because I'm going to buy quality.

I'm surprised majority of people who watched E3 2013 closely weren't too upset late on with Microsoft. They ignored all the hate and criticism they received back in May of 2013 when they announced Xbone. They basically said f-you, at E3, DRM is here to stay and you're gonna like it. They less then a week later come out with a video about how great the Xbone is but still dance around their own questions in the freaking interview! Followed by about a month later when Gamestop showed pre-order sales numbers and suddenly Microsoft does a 180 and hates DRM too, loves games by choice, backtracks the Kinect to only be slightly always on, and slides in random other points that upset others as though the problems never existed (Microphone/headset and supposed Kinect Cover slips which never originally announced until the "official" unboxing by Herb).

As a guy who's approaching 10 years on LIVE (and canceling his service), it's disappointing to still own a 360 after the scumbag choices that company made to it's consumers.

I could care less about the company as long as they make good systems and games that go along with it. Also, if you're looking for quality, PS4 is generations behind PCs in almost every aspect so yeah. There's only two reasons why I'm going from an Xbox 360 to a PS4, 1) My uncle has an Xbone 2) I really want FF15 and KH3 (if GoW comes out then that too), I could care less about anything else. Also, you should really stop the console wars (applying to others). I mean it was ok when it was PS2 vs Xbox, they were both different and PS2 had waaaaaaaaaay better games, but now they are virtually the same. PS these companies are about money, no multi billionaire company wants to use it's money in a non-profitable way, so they do waht they think is most profitable. When they see that they **** up badly, they turn right aroundcand start caring a bit, just how many companies work.

FPS_Tomi And actually Xbox One did sold a lot better than PS4
It hasn't been released in every country yet but still Xbox One has sold over 5 Million units. Let's wait until it hits other regions

And still console war IS SO STUPID thing to whine about. GET A LIFE REALLY

The majority of nations the Xbone is now coming to are the ones that sold 360s moderately well. This and then followed by a third/possibly fourth waves too that sell in countries that had poor sales of 360s. Majority of the countries where Xbone is now coming to are countries that lead with PS3 sales of 360 sales so I wouldn't imagine we're gonna see a large sum suddenly arise for Microsoft.

I currently own an Xbox 360 but I'm getting a PS4 when I decide to get a next gen console. Mainly because most of my friends got a PS4 and also I really want to play some PS4 exclusives such as MLB The Show and The Last of Us.

Well sure wasnt me since im enjoying my xbone! I dont care about the ps4

I only got my Xbox 360 because of Halo 3. I`m only going to Xbox One because of Halo 3... Nuff nuff. BTW a lot of people say Halo 2 is better but I did not simple grow up with it. Just like I grew up with mw2 and not cod4.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Most of my friends transferred to PS4.

Dummazz420 Microsoft will always have the best exclusives with Halo, Forza Horizon, and Sunset Overdrive which all look more promising then any Sony exlusive. Also I would like to say that as cliche as it might sound, "It's a marathon, not a sprint". "Sony will be posting yet another multi-billion dollar loss this year. The 2014/2015 fiscal year is predicted to end with a $490 million loss. It's the sixth loss in seven years and brings the grand total to nearly $100 billion."
Sony may or may not have the revenue in future years to pursue the video game market. "Microsoft, on the other hand, is making money. The company posted an $8 billion profit for 2013 but the console division didn't contribute much to the success." I would also like to add the thought about console availability. Xbox will be adding 26 more countries to their market by September. With Microsoft now being close to the availability as Sony, we might see that sale gap greatly decrease.

In conclusion although Sony is winning the console war now, Microsoft is the slow tortoise looking at the finish line, not 2 feet in front of him such as the boasting hare. But most importantly lets all remember that this is what's great about economic competition. The consumer, not the producer comes out on top.

You sir have to much to to do research. just take a look at Sony exclusives and the support the game dev are giving the playstation over the xbox. Uncharted and the last of us both wall all over any xbox exclusive and the supporting games...Destiny, GTA, Dead island, Battlefield the list goes on. the only supporting game worth mentioning for the xbox is CoD but thats dead need I say more?

Uncharted is a linear 3rd person action/shooter. i remember when the third game was free on PS+ WOW was it absolutely boring. The Last of Us isn't "exclusive worthy. i bought the game thinking "wow should be amazing". the MP is crap and the story was average. so no those games don't walk over any Xbox exclusives come back when you get better ones.

I disagree the last of us had an amazing story better than any i have every played and i dont think it should be MP tbh its not designed for MP play imo

amazing no average yes. i've played games with a better storyline kind of regret buying TLOU i should of rented it.
