Xbox One without Kinect 'flying off the shelves' at GameStop

4.7
Microsoft began selling Xbox One without Kinect for the first time this week and GameStop says US consumers have responded strongly to the $399 product.

"They went on sale in GameStop yesterday; these things started to fly off the shelves," senior vice president of merchandising Bob Puzon told GameSpot. "It's a huge win and a huge opportunity for us."

Puzon also noted that the original $499 Xbox One is still "very vibrant" for the retailer.

Microsoft reported in late April that Xbox One shipments totalled five million units. PS4 sales stood at seven million units as of April 6, according to Sony, with both platforms having launched in November 2013.

Microsoft made a number of significant announcements in the run-up to E3. Aside from the Kinect-free Xbox One, Games with Gold launched on the system, while entertainment apps are no longer locked behind an Xbox Live Gold subscription..

The announcements cleared the way for the company to focus on game-related reveals during its E3 press conference on Monday.

Glad they dropped the price. The console was way too much money when it first launched at $500.

Pretty good since price dropped. But we won't be able to say 'Xbox snap' :o

I am sure it is going a bit better sales wise but you never can know how long this initial sales rush will last. I personally really enjoy using my Kinect and I personally wouldn't have gotten the Kinect if I and the option not to when I purchased my Xbox One but it's worth it in the end. The Kinect is really the future but both gamers and developers don't embrace it enough, which is a shame.

Potion They should have done this at launch they would've sold so many more consoles they could have beaten sony.

Yep. They lost a good amount people to Sony when they tried to bundle, and only offered the product in the form of a bundling package.

Actually, they still sold 5 million units to people who had to get the xbone who payed the extra $100 for kinect, who may not have had they released without, now that pond is fished so to speak they bring out a reduced option to keep people biting who may have stayed on their 360 for a while because they knew the price would come down at some point.

It's just classic market skimming, it's a highly desired product, release it at top dollar and there are plenty of people who must have it, as time goes on and sales begin to decline you then drop the price so the next band of consumers become in the range of affordability, and so on, it's how you sustain sales over a longer period of time. Microsoft are not stupid.

I knew they would sell a lot more if they did this. was even about buying one, and still might buy one later on. I think Xbone will surpass PS4 in sells here soon.
