DayZ servers hacked, source code reportedly leaked

Bohemia Interactive's servers have been hacked and the intruder appears to have gained access to DayZ's source code.

A user posting under the name "DevDomo" posted screengrabs of the purported source files to a cheating forum. Though the thread has since been pulled offline, a Reddit user grabbed a cached version of the discussion and its images.

Bohemia confirmed to Rely On Horror that an attack of some nature had occurred around DevDomo's time frame, though "the precise nature and scope of this attack is currently being extensively investigated."

Player accounts appear to be secure, but if the hacker manages to disseminate the source code and debugging tools that could mean the online zombie survival game - which has already encountered its share of hackers and cheaters - will likely see a new wave of exploits.

DayZ creator Dean Hall announced early in May that the standalone version of the former Arma 2 mod had sold more than two million copies via Steam Early Access.

This is one of the problems and issue with small development companies. It also seems like sometimes these companies spend more time developing and making the game greater then they do on security. Sometimes it pays off and other times it doesn't like this time. I guess it's not a super bad thing that they were hacked, it only gets bad when account information in compromised.

Hackers that abuse their mods online ruin games. Private matches or single-player is a different story.

I agree. I don't mind if the modding doesn't effect anyone else, but if it does then I think it's not right, you're ruining the game for others.

Aww - that's real disappointing. Damn hackers exploiting an Alpha game, I've yet to run into any hackers but just glitch abusers. If anyone is looking to buy this, even Dean Hall said to wait out until it reaches Beta - if it does.

I haven't ran across any hackers in DayZ yet, just people who kill on sight .-. All in all, I'm sure I'm bound to run into a hacker eventually (if I played the game more.)

TrueHardcoreGamer This why Console Gaming is better, cuz cheating/hacks are CONTROLLED, where on PC its full hackers/Modders/Cheater to many of them its hard to Controll them, u ban there IP they change it, U ban them diff way they work around it cuz hackers/Cheaters can bypass bans on PC, on a Console ones ur baned UR BANED LMFAO, PC needs step up & Fix This & Learn CONTROLL the cheating, the ONLY PC games that have Controlled cheaters/hackers/modders are PAY-To-Play Games where the game has Undercover ADMINS. Don't pay attention to this guy, I've seen and debated him(and won) and I can tell you he is complete troll. He has stated in one of his previous posts that he games on PC a lot but as anyone can see in this post right here he does not know anything (if he is not just trolling). If he knew anything about bans he would know you could get banned in two ways. 1. Server Ban 2. License ban. Also this "hack" is not like the cheating and walk hacks thing he was referring to. This can be compared to the Playstation hack of 2011. If he played PC more often he would realize that most online games do not have cheaters and 99% of the time things are under control. Lastly PC is a superior platform. I shouldn't need to go into that because most gamers already know this, but this guy makes a fool of himself saying otherwise.
