DualShock 4 Light Dimming Coming With 1.7 PS4 Firmware Update

4.4
Update: Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida just confirmed on Twitter that the feature is indeed coming with 1.7.

After Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida talked about it at the game developers conference, a curtain of silence fell on the upcoming PS4 feature that will allow us to dim the light of the DualShock 4, leading many to wonder whether it’ll be included in the 1.7 firmware update or not.

Industry insider Tidux, who has already demonstrated to know quite well what goes on at Sony, confirmed today that the feature is indeed between those that will be included in 1.7, and that Sony still has to officially announce.
As usual we have to consider this a rumor until officially confirmed by Sony itself, but Tidux already proved his reliability by talking about several features of the PS4′s operating system and UI before they were disclosed, and more recently by nailing the release date of the 1.7 update.
The PS4 1.7 firmware update will be released on April 30th worldwide, and will include quite a few other features, like the ability to turn off HDCP, HD streaming on Twitch and Ustream, the SHAREFactory video editing suite, and the ability to transfer video and screenshots to external USB storage.

I personally don't own one but my brother has been going on about how the light was driving him crazy so this will be good to see!

thelight I'm not hating, but why can't you guys just have the option to turn it off?

Personally I think they can't, the pad wasn't designed in a way that allowed software updates to disable stuff.

I'm shocked they can even update the pad software, but if there only dimming it when so meany asked for it to be a toggle on or off, it makes me think they can't disable it, since why wouldn't you allow it.

Or better yet, for me disable it unless the system detects a PSEye 2 camera connected, as its useless otherwise.

Hey, PS4 is just as good as the Xbox.

Yah I have both of the consoles, and there is really no difference, but I am selling my ps4 because I have been a Xbox fan forever.

But why would you limit yourself with a console?

SIKSPosted:

Sony is definitely implementing a lot of good updates to literally everything for the PS4, nice too see that!

That's what I was thinking. Seems like it would be pretty annoying during late-night gaming sessions.
