GameSpy finally fading into the dark on May 31

3.7
GameSpy Technologies is sadly shutting down their online matchmaking service used via their middleware in over a 1,000 games. The company first was created as a Quake server search program way back in 1996 but quickly branched out to support online play for hundreds of console and PC games. Their list of publishing partners include Activision, Electronic Arts, Capcom, Sega, and Nintendo; all games affected by this are forced to migrate their online play to SteamWorks or cease their title's multiplayer functionality. GameSpy ceased producing editorial content last year but continued their matchmaking middleware backbone infrastructure following their purchase by mobile game publisher Glu Mobile in 2012.
